I can't get my copy of Hard Truck Apocalypse to work on my new rig at all so I need suggestions for a similar game. If you could please advise I'd be extremely grateful because I can't find anything that comes close.

Looking for an open world vehicle shooter with RPG elements and an emphasis on trading.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Admittedly 2D but Mexican Motor Mafia comes to mind. Don't know if it's sold anywhere online, though. Got my copy from a gaming mag a long time ago.

It's probably the copyprotection that prevents it from running on everything newer than Windows XP, you might want to try downloading a crack or maybe rebuy it on Steam as it isn't expensive especially when it's on sale (maybe claiming it on Steam is possible if you got the game with a code but I don't know to be honest).

I don't know of any similar games, the A.I.M. series come close and if you're willing to trade in your truck for a spaceship there are plenty of options like WC: Privateer or Elite: Dangerous or maybe Euro Truck Simulator 2 if you can do without combat and story.

I'm buying Hard Truck Apocalypse! :P

Thanks for the suggestions - I have all those games, except the AIMs games, so i might give them a try. Also, its not the copy protection - I can get the game to load and even run by eleting the vids and editing the cfg file for resolution - its the save game error that I can't fix - its very frustrating because HTA is a damn good game. It's pretty damn good, IF you can get it to load games after you've left the first area. Also, the voice acting and scripting is pretty dire, but n a funny Russian kind of way

If you have installed the game in %:\Program Files%\ try installing it somewhere else, from Vista and onward these folders are protected.
