Ok, after talking about The Philosopher's Stone from Artifex Mundi, I just "happened" to see a game called Stellaris pop up when I started surfing the site, lol!! I bought it, so wish me luck, Denise PS I should have mentioned I was and still am a Star Trek fan, but mostly, just a stargazer, lol;) Denise

We were all recommending you games according with what you liked in the past (adventure, a bit casual, hidden objects, etc) and you go and buy Stellaris! Well, good luck indeed, Denise!

It's a fantastic game with a fantastic setting for someone who loves Star fiction, but it's not even remotely casual.

The developers of Stellaris like to call their games (they have more strategy games like this one but about history, set in Dark Ages, Age of Discovery or even the New Imperialism age in the late 19 century) "Grand-Strategy", meaning this kind of games are deep and require a high amount of time to learn and to play.

I highly recommend you, if you want to learn the game, to see a few Youtube videos with gameplay, like these ones (more or less recent, made for new players, with explanations and enough gameplay to see what to do):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=im_QJAVJ9Kg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wdaw7eHMi8

Again, good luck with the game, i hope you enjoy it and remember there is a sub-forum for asking any kind of questions about Stellaris, here:

https://www.gog.com/forum/stellaris

PS: oh, also, if you finally find it too much compared with adventure games, you can always ask for a refund. It is explained here:

Yes, you guys were great with what (who) you had to work with;) I will give it my best shot, but I couldn't pass it up, and I did find the individual games forums. Thanks for the heads up on returning the game but so far, I am nuts about it! I was kind of the same way with the easy hog games, got bored fast and kept searching for harder ones.

So kind of "sink or swim" and I'll just do my best. I love that there are more games (in that series) too so if I love it like I think I will, I can get another. This one will be a real training ground, lol!! My only problem is, I'm afraid I won't ever get off my computer again, LOL!!

Thanks for all the links, I especially want to look at the youtube vids on the game;) Denise

Also just wanted to say Welcome and also if you need any help with stuff, just post on the forums and many people will be happy to help. Or use chat with the people posting here (me included). And good luck with Stellaris!

You mentioned being into Star Trek - there are a handful of Trek games here too.

Thanks, and I appreciate the help :) Denise
did I say "sink of swim", I drowned, LOL! Oh well, live and learn. That's was the most humbling experience I've had in a long time so it wasn't a waste;)

I did find a tute that I think was really, well done. But when I realized the game wasn't all about "pretty" planets to travel too, and weird beings (I love weird because that's where I fit best) I knew I was in over my limited brain capacity.

I'm going to look for more of the games you guys gave me, and not grab at the first, gorgeous "scene" I see. I think I at least have good taste LOL! It's just typically "over my head";)

Ok, so I will pick something else and I'll ask "more" about it when I find another I "think" I can play;) Denise

surfer1260: > I would like to find a game that would "simulate" snow-skiing

Ski Challenge was a simulation in which you could race on 10 slopes built on basis of well-known
real tracks of the skiing circus (like Val d'Isere, Kitzbühel or Beaver Creek). Unfortunately the game was
abandoned in 2016. But the community offers a patch that makes it possible to still use the game on
newer systems. This project is called Offline Challenge 18, and you can download it for free here:
https://www.forum.happytec.at/viewtopic.php?t=2980

What you have to do in order to install it is this:
- Download SkiChallenge16_v2.exe für Windows
- During installation choose ENGLISH and USE CUSTOM INSTALLATION, but DOI NOT START THE GAME afterwards
- Download OC18_Aktivierung_v1.0.exe Patch-Installer (nur für Windows)
- Install it
- Go to the game's installation folder and run the game by clicking on the start Offline Challenge 18 link or directly
on Game.exe
Hey Surfer, I've decided to try this game. The download is free, but is the game? I just want to be careful with spending as you can see I blew it with Stellaris. I'm ok with that because I learned my lesson. I've got the instructions in front of me so I'll go over and look at the download link.

One thing I'm finding out is this PC is fast. My downloads are slow because of having Wifi only in my apartment. We get it free though from landlords so not griping about that. 20mbps download isn't horrible though and on this PC I'll be offline most of the time;)

I marked this as solution (but really 1 solution) and I had no problems getting it set up, thanks so much Surfer. This is the type of game I was hoping for, and it's looking like something I can actually handle;)

Still so appreciate EVERYONE's help here. Maybe there is a discussion on this game, and I already see there are some videos on it;) Denise

PS Just Pinned the Game to my taskbar, and then fired it right up after following ALL your instructions (excellent instruction).

The game was a marketing measure by the austrian TV (ORF). They gave it for free, They organized
online races during the season and the guy with the most points got a prize.

Oh man, I am having fun now surfer, what a blast!! I was laughing out loud as I crashed and burned several times as my mouse can't be used as a controller, LOL! Then I just used my arrow keys to steer, what a perfect game, and I couldn't find one anywhere! So thank you, and thank you again!! Denise PS and THANK YOU AUSTRIA!!
