Don't see how. I've torn apart and built many computers. Takes something like an hour for the hardware side, the software side is another hour or so. Afterwards you're set for 5-10 years unless you wanted to change something.

I worked on building computers back when 486DX 100Mhz was still a thing, actually that was one of my first computers. Need a modem? It's not efficient to buy a new computer with it 'built in' instead you pay the $30 for the card and put it in yourself.

But some of the work is working with individual wires going into specific configurations, jump pins, and screwing the screws in place and the separators.

There are workarounds for that.

So here is where i need some help.

Got the system built, got the OS installed, got the drivers on the drive (since i have no DVD/CD drive), but the USB drivers and other stuff won't install, leaving me stuck, and without those i don't have a mouse yet.

Suggestions?

Down to just the USB devices not working... Seems to be a common Gigabyte issue.

You downloaded and installed the driver pack from Gigabyte, right? For the correct motherboard including the right revision. Went into the UEFI and turned things on and off as need be?

Hard to navigate with only a keyboard or mouse. So far i've used the drivers supplied from the driver disc. As for the driver pack, i can't make heads or tails which one(s) i'm suppose to get.

It tends to be difficult for me too which is why I asked. Did you try different USB ports? You might need to turn extra USB ports on in the UEFI. I suspect I will not come up with more ideas tonight.

I've tried nearly every port to see if i can't get the keyboard to work. They work in the BIOS and booting, but not windows once it gets loaded.

I'll experiment, i saw a suggestion of turning off Xchi ports or whatnot, which effectively turns 3.0 ports into 2.0 ports.

If i can find the drivers, fine, but figuring out which chipset it actually has and getting it to download... I'd rather just put the files on a USB drive and transfer it, but yeah that won't work until USB is installed properly.

There's 2 devices on the computer that aren't getting installed, AMD USB 3.1 eXtended controller, or something very similar. Or at least that's what it is identified from the driver(s) disc.

I read somewhere a suggestion that most peripherals work best on USB2.

Yeah. Managed to get the drivers, did an express install, restarted, some driver isn't installing, but now i have keyboard & mouse support when i switched to one of the back ports. So now the system is... well... ready more or less.

THAT was entirely too much work.

They really should make it so nearly all hardware can work on generic drivers (even if it's less efficient) since that helps with getting the actual drivers.

Purchased some 16Gb ram (2x8gb), identical type, brand, speed, timing, etc, only the capacity is larger; And the board doesn't seem to want to work with it.

Flashed the BIOS to the newest version and it still doesn't recognize it. But at least it doesn't blip on and off every other second while initializing anymore with the new ram.

Thoughts?

The manual for the motherboard should have a list of rules for how to populate RAM. Did you look at that? If that fails I have no other ideas than that sometimes RAM just does not want to work, like the motherboard does not support chips (count them on the modules) larger than a certain size.

well this exact DDR4 isn't listed as compatible. And my older gaming rig has DDR3 so that's out.

I'll just see if i get any feedback from Gigabyte on if i can use this, I'd rather not have to send back the ram. Worse case i order different memory i suppose. Or us another computer with more ram to do side projects where time isn't as important.
