Emob78: So it brings back a question I've been dying to ask George Lucas since he hopped on the CGI train a long time ago.

If CGI is so much cheaper and allows things to be seen on screen that couldn't before using practical FX... then why have human actors in the films at all? To illicit emotion? Bwahahahahahaha! That would be a good response from George 'just stand on that fucking mark and spit out this pointless word salad with the soulless eyes of a shark' Lucas.

Pixels and polygons deserve to be in one place - video games. Anything else is bullshit and eye-sex material. Under the hood it's just a lifeless corpse. Yoda would not approve of this crude matter.

Elmofongo: Heck I would not mind if a Star Wars was all CGI but with a realistic style like Beowulf:

Heck its already done like the SWTOR trailers:

I think that the direction they were going with the Clone Wars stuff. A merchandise friendly, kid friendly cartoon. Bit soulless but it does smell of clever marketing. Gotta give Lucas credit for that. He knows how to turn a gimmick into a religion that spawns money trees. Then again, so does Disney, so I guess in that sense Star Wars is in very good hands.

Breja: Actually, not that I'm expecting too much out of this movie, but they are using a lot of practical effects and real sets. It's actually been something they put a lot of emphasis on.
Are the aliens going to be CG or people in suits/puppets?

Better CGI:

Then Mangled Skinned Humans:

And besides looking back some of the costumes and puppets in the old movies look painfully dated and obvious.

I think it's a mix of all that. In that video I linked you can see some animatronics, people in costumes, but also some peple doing motion capture (I think), just as there are real sets, and shooting on location, but also some green screen. Which is for the best. CG, as long as it's used in moderation, is a great tool, so going with practical effects for main course and a side order of well done CG is the best way to go for a movie like this I think.
I was obsessed with Star Wars when I was a kid. but yet, I can take or leave this movie. it'll probably be good in the way any movie is good that is attached to something like Disney and that has the money for the people known to be able to pull off the movie thing most of the time. but I guess we'll see how good of a Star Wars movie it ends up when the opinions come in and whether there's the presence of a shared sentiment among fans it's not the same.

I already have trouble with the film because I heard they kill everyone off right away and because this Sith is a giant rip of Revan.

and mainly because of the impractical stupid highlander sabre.

you know what the sad thing is I just realized? even the impression they did of it early in that video is more legit than the real thing because the cute little mini sabers are actually flush with the hilt almost and not blatantly open to neutralization by an attacking sabre striking their emitters.

Crosmando: "The Force Awakens" just sounds so.... dumb
As opposed to Attack of the Clones or The Phantom Menace?

The movies were terrible, but those titles aren't too bad. "The Force Awakens" sounds like the title of some low-budget handheld/mobile game.

Return of the Jedi sounded bland. They were gonna called Revenge of the Jedi.

To me, Attack of the Clones sounds like the title to a movie MST3K should be riffing and The Phantom menace is such a vacuous, overblown title that screams "sci-fi channel original movie".

Also I agree "The Force Awakens" isn't really a great title, it just sounds... lackadaisical.

Jedi don't take revenge tho
What I'm hoping is that they do a better job on this than those prequels...

And that was George Lucas decision to change the title back to Return.

I'm scared of this movie. If it is as shit as The Phantom Menace oh man:

Cinemasins, Screen Junkies, Red Letter Media, Channel Awesome, Moviebob, and others are going to have a field day :P

Revenge of the Jedi may sound badass at first, but it's a title that sounds less appropriate the more you think about it.

It'll probably be a decent action movie, worth the 2 hours spent watching it but nothing truly amazing.

Here's a hint: You don't have to watch/read any of that.
