ugh still wanted to get another original controller for the standard price - this might be hard now i guess
Made my own classic mini with a Raspberry pi3 and retropie software. Works rather well, only I don't have the original controllers.
Why the fuss over this? There's nothing good about this box, besides nostalgia. Even retropie+rpi3 would be a better choice, with better games/controller support and also the ability to watch movies. Aliexpress has dozens of these retro controllers, with usb or original plugg.

"nes controller"

At the end of the day, it's just an emulation box. I'm glad that I still have my childhood NES and games.

I have them but I got the spring loaded version so good luck getting it to work.

Also, I don't have the coordination i had 25 years ago so I need the save feature the MINI has.

Darvond: It is times like this where I wonder what drugs Nintendo smokes, and if I can have a hit.
I wish the drugs they smoke, will give them happy illusions to release their IPs/Rights for the PC. That'd be one drug of fortune! :D

Why wouldn't the spring loaded version work? Are the 72 pin connectors not connecting with the cartridges? I fixed mine by bending the pins back into place.

Hmmm, I might try that. If I can find the damn thing. :P

But didn't you hear? Well over 20 years ago, Hudson Soft botched a port of Super Mario Bros to the PC, and despite Apogee's best efforts to try and woo Nintendo, they turned down the idea of letting them port Mario Bros 3! Clearly nothing has changed in such a time!

Daaamn, totally forgot that one existed. Indeed, I actually got some Super Mario game from a shareware CD-ROM back in the mid-90's and remember finishing that demo many times as a kid. Curious how people keep talking about Apogee's cancelled Mario Bros 3 but seem to be 100% oblivious to the existence of that one (can't blame them considering that I myself all but forgot about it). Had no idea that Hudson Soft was behind it.
It's a wonder that Nintendo hasn't gone the way of Commodore yet.

I have original controllers for NES, SNES and Genesis that I plug into my computer via a USB adapter. I've also got the hardware to dump my own ROMS for most cart based systems.

A bit of an investment on my part, but it's a better deal than having to hope that something like this comes out.

I personally, think this was poor planning on Nintendo's part as these things are unlikely to canabalize any sales for the Switch as nobody is going to avoid buying the Switch just because this has a few ROMS available.
Seriously, Nintendo is doing so many stupid things now that I'm actually delaying getting some new games for the 3DS because I want to see if I should keep giving them my money. Still waiting on info on the Switch (VC, 2D Mario...).

I think you're crossing wires. I somehow doubt you had access to a Japanese computtter as a lad. Mario VGA wasn't a legit port, either.

This is the one made by Hudson

The Mario Bros 3 by Apogee never left the prototyping stage. But perhaps you've heard of Dangerous Dave? And the research done lead to Commander Keen, the first major smooth scrolling PC game.
