You get up to 5 points added per day for a high rated post, unsure if there's a limit to how much rep you can get from one high rated post.
You lose up to 5 points per day for each low rated post, unsure if there's a limit to how much rep one post can cost you.

General rule of rep is, ignore rep and participate in the community. In the longer run, your rep will naturally rise.
