PookaMustard: the dictionary says:
woke is the simple past tense of wake
If waking up is going broke, then please go to sleep because you waking up on us was a mistake, old crust.
amok: I also find it funny how the term 'woke' has been turned into something negative. Originally, it was used during Abraham Lincoln's 1860 election campaign, not in the context of 'woke' but as part of the phrase 'awake' to denote political awareness, essentially the opposite of political apathy. It was used to encourage awakening to the horrors and injustices of slavery. woke is the simple past tense of wake
If waking up is going broke, then please go to sleep because you waking up on us was a mistake, old crust.
In the 20th century, 'woke' was adopted by human rights groups and used in the context of anti-racism. For instance, Leadbelly, in his song 'Scottsboro Boys' (from 1938), which tells the true story of three black men falsely accused and killed for allegedly raping a white woman, used the phrase: 'I advise everybody, be a little careful when they go along through there—best stay woke, keep their eyes open.'
Essentially, 'woke' has always been about political awareness, activism, anti-slavery, and anti-racism. So this is what these people are agsinst.
