Found my old Win95 disc for Nightmare Creatures, but its CPU locked, a single tap of "forward" rockets you 1/2 across the level
So far? Absolutely nothing. I was able to run, and play every single old game I tried with. DOSBox, PCem, VMWare, wrappers, patches, fixes, I've found everything I needed.

When it comes to backward compatibility and retro-gaming, I've come to fear nothing :-D

Can't run pacific general. I got a vague idea I could get it to load on windows 7, possibly with some compatibility settings. Too busy to really play even 1 map.

Tried to run it on Windows 10 with various settings without success. Theres a forum where they talk about it but no solution.
I used to be able to play Rally Trophy, probably even on this computer, but some little thing or more changed in the system. Although even before, it was limited in the input methods that did work.
Some times I wish GOG would supply something like an emulator environment that would ensure the game would play. Sadly, due to Microsoft's copyright, they cannot.

If you got your games running fine, I envy you. But then again, I run Linux.

Have you downloaded the latest version?
Because it runs on my Win10 machine.

As long as they don't include any Microsoft code, they can. Some Mac/Linux games on GOG are the Windows versions wrapped in Wine. Not only that, but Boxedwine exists, which is Wine running in a Linux emulator, that works on Windows. And Voodoo Kid uses Boxedwine.

I did not know GOG used Wine in any of their games. That would help the game preservation effort, since they could bundle a particular system.

True that games from the late 90's and early 00's (the perioe Voodoo Kid is from) is such a chore to make run, but that was also such a creative period for videogames.

clarry: I'm curious. At one point in time, it wasn't too uncommon for it to be very tricky to get old games running well or at all. But now that decades of effort has gone into emulation, community patches, etcetra., do you still find games that are impossible to run? Which games?

I'm especially curious about anything from the 90s (DOS to Win98 era or so).
Battlefield 1942. I miss that game so much. And Starfleet Academy from GOG. Neither will run for me on Windows 11. Old or new drivers, it doesn't matter. They wont run. :(

About BF 1942 - did you try using DGVoodoo2 or any other DirectX-wrapper or DirectX emulator for old games like that?
