Thiefer: GOG game 'Crimsonland' is an excellent one-day game.
6 Chapters, 10 levels per.
I have 8.5 hours clocked on Steam, finishing it twice on different difficulties, as well as dabbling with the awesome 'one-and-done' scoring game modes like Nukefism (no guns, only power-ups) and Type-O-Shooter (type out words to kill incoming enemies).
Hmm, I don't know about that. When I originally played it (pre-1.1.0.4 version), it took me a while to complete it as your progression on certain stages was entirely reliant on whether you would get a good weapon or not. Do you remember what version you played the game?

muntdefems: · The Last Door: Beating it in under 5h means spending less than 1h15min per chapter (highly unlikely on a first playthrough without a walkthrough)

Geralt_of_Rivia: I disagree. The game is really easy and rather short. I beat it on the first run in 4h. Without a walkthrough, of course.
It took me 6h45min to complete it 100%, which included a bit of replay of a few chapters. I'd vote for one-day-game as well.

Well, HowLongToBeat seems to be on your side, so I withdraw my objections. :P

Another game I'm 100% positive about its 'one-day-ness' is Soulless: Ray of Hope (, [url=http://store.steampowered.com/app/528300/]Steam). I'd go as far as to say it's impossible not to beat it in less than 5 hours.
Alright then. Reinstated Last Door to the GOG list and added Postal Redux and Soulless: Ray of Hope to the other list.

It was December 2016 when I played it, so 1.1.0 according to Steam.
I think I read that Quest Mode used to not have perks in one of the earlier versions. That sounds significantly more difficult.
I certainly didn't finish my first playthrough of Quest Mode in one day, but going by hour count, I'd say it qualifies. Once I discovered that doing battle in the thick of things was the best strategy, and not on the outskirts of the map (as was my initial strategy), I started breezing through the levels, except those two levels with the infernal Spideroids. The frequent power-ups along with the right perks, the amount of carnage wrought was quite satisfying at times. My second playthrough took me three hours, tops. Great battles. Great game.

Thanks for the info. In that case, I will add it.

Another short game I've beaten in one sitting: Dreaming Sarah (available on Steam, definitely DRM-free on IndieGameStand, and who-knows-how on the Humble Store)
The Guest can be completed within 5 hours.
GOG game 'Astebreed' is another one. Really cool Japanese indie SHMUP.
Had to replay the first chapter a couple times to find the right keyboard layout, then I blasted my way through the six chapters in under two hours. Game begs to be replayed, though. Leaderboards, unlockables (art, detailed lore), higher difficulties, hidden achievements, etc.

Hello. Sorry for not responding, but I didn't notice that post of yours. Since I'm a bit biased against including shoot-em-ups in this list, did you have to use any continues to complete the game or not?

I did. Last couple levels were difficult. Continuing only made me restart the current level.
Whispering Willows (not on GOG, but DRM-free e.g. at the Humble Store) takes 2-3 hours to play through. I completed it in one go.
Little Nightmares can be completed in one day. And in fact, one of the achievements requires you to complete the game in less than an hour (without dying).

The remaster of Full Throttle should be in the gog list, it can be completed in just a day:

Jack's Gang can be finished in ~20 minutes.
