rtcvb32: I'll try and give the games a try with the new engine. My only concern is the engine is labeled Alpha, so I wonder if there's any issues to worry about, or if it's just minor things (
non-game breaking) they are fixing before it hits a full release.
snowkatt: collision detection and enemy AI are not working yet
but you can run around in a level
Collision is is already mostly working. Otherwise you could not run around the level at all.
rtcvb32: I see... Makes me hesitate using it then.
snowkatt: we are alpha testers basically
though this time around we dont have the dubious "honour"of paying for it
Pay for what? The engine is gratis. You do need to have the assets to run the games, but the free demos you can still download work too.

You wouldn't want to if all you want to do is play the old games; but if you want to help test the engine out and give feedback to the developers, it would be helpful.
clarry: It would be nice if the project's homepage clearly stated the project's (incomplete) status. So as to not waste time for people who just want to play the game.
Fairfox: Sounds like it's going to be a looooong way off, anyways...
Could be. Though there is really no telling with a project like this. To get TR1 in a playable state what needs to be finished is menus, enemy AI, collision fine tuning and event scripting. I imagine that the AI is going to be the largest hurdle.
