Since there's a sale ongoing elsewhere some platformers caught my attention but I'm not able to decide which one to get. Here they are:
1) Grow Home: No real problem, even game debate says I can run it but somehow when I see the minimum panel my GPU only reaches upto 81% of minimum required so I'm a bit hesitant.
2) Shovel Knight: Difficulty is one aspect that's scaring me away from this one, other than that it is real nice to see the devs being active and still working on the game. Does it have proper checkpoints? Not a good comparison but I couldn't play Rogue Legacy and I felt it was really difficult. Since both are retro platformers I was afraid the difficulty would be similar
3) Axiom verge: Sci-fi and using glitches to our advantage is real nice to hear, again same as above are there enough checkpoints?

Open to other platformer recommendations as well. Here's my potato's specs:
APU A10-4600M
GPU AMD 7660G + 7670M Dual Graphics
6GB RAM and yep it is a laptop.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I would be grateful if you can help me out!

Edit: Also how accurate are the minimum specs on Ori and the blind forest, my cpu seems to below minimum is there any way I could get it to run? Anyone had experience of running it on weak machines?

Update: Ori runs perfectly on my system, that's quite surprising so I thought I should add that here for anyone who might happen upon this thread. Runs at 60fps all the time, only rarely does it ever slow down a bit which I presume happens when a new area is being loaded or some such.

Haven't played any of those three, but I've had my eyes on Axiom Verge for a while. Looks fun!
On gog my favorite platformer is Rayman Origins. It's absolutely brilliant even if it is a bit pricey. It's definitely worth the price though, but perhaps it's better to wait for it to go on sale.

Can oly comment on Shovel Knight (never polayed the others), but I'd say it's definitively worth it.

It's not that difficult, but can sure be challenging (it's certainly not one of the ultra-masochist platformers meant for tormenting players, that's for sure).

As for the checkpoints, yes there are (which you can even smash for extra rewards, if you like the challenge).

Also, you don't have lives in the traditional sense, on death you only lose Gold (which can be picked up if you make it back to the place of your demise), so you can basically try a level indefinitively, while still being rewarded for good runs, as Gold unlocks character upgrades and so on.

So all in all, difficulty shouldn't be too much of a concern with this one (at least as far as I remember), and I definitively had a lot of fun with it.

I haven't played any of the above, but can highly recommend:
Teslagrad (Strongly underrated, it was sooo good, maybe the best one ever!)
Trine
Trine 2 Complete (even better than the first one)
Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams
UnEpic

All those should run fine and were brilliant.

I hven't played Giana Sisters: Rise of the Owlverlord] yet (will very soon), but I guess it's cool too.
After I read the first sentence I wanted to recommend Rogue Legacy but I reached the second point :P

-- Axiom Verge is a very good Metroidvania and it has "save rooms" just like many Metroidvania games. So don't worry about the checkpoints. If you're a metroidvania fan, don't miss it.

-- But I think your main concern is "platformer", so Shovel Knight is more recommended for you. I don't have it but ShK satisfied almost all of players who played it. If you're unsure about it, read some reviews (GOG, Steam, Critics) and watch gameplay videos on youtube. That game is really amazing. I will buy it for sure.
Could try PixelJunk Shooter... It's sorta a platformer...
Ended up getting Ori and Shovel Knight. Played Shovel Knight for a while and it was nice, checkpoints were evenly placed out (at least in first 3 levels) So I'm marking Azhdar as solution! Thanks to Habanerose for answer as well, and thanks to everyone else who replied with recommendations.

Thanks Klumpen0815 for the recommendations. I played Trine 1 and 2, UnEpic seemed a bit difficult after a point and I gave up afaik I killed 2 bosses, worm and dragon. I will look into the rest. :)

I've seen it once or twice, I guess I will get it in the next sale.

Problem was I wasn't getting enough coin for an upgrade nor was I going anywhere, which was frustrating for me. :(

Rayman's definitely on my list, but I'm waiting to get it on GOG!

Finally, Merry Christmas to everyone!
Enjoy it! :)
