A "General Discussion" forum of a platform usually is intended for general discussions regarding the platform, in this case, gog. Problems, wishes, etc.
It is NOT intended for off-topic discussions like politics, forum games, movies etc.

gog IMHO does really need an off-topic forum, to where all then non-games, non-gog topic should be moved.
Thanks!

Considering that they deleted my topic about GOG(*) (and plenty of other evidence which I cant recall in detail) I do not believe this forum is meant to discuss GOG.

(*) "Effects of New Anti-Censorship Polish Law on GOG?"

Any ones which do not suffer from censorship?

I support the idea, but because there really hasn't been any forum updates, almost never, I don't expect to see that happening.

I don't support removing movie discussions though. They are very closely related to games, using same IPs, same actors, and created by same media companies, like Disney.

And let's not forget, technically speaking GOG is also selling movies, so there's no need to remove movie discussions as long as that movie section exists in some fashion.

I genuinly don't care, apart from most people online have some very warped views about what censorship and free speech is

Guter: ...
It's a video game online seller, we would we need a non-game / non-Gog topic. Not to mention that the reason why they banned politics topics is not because they clustered the general discussion forum but because those topics were a major pain to moderate. Re-allowing those topics on a forum, and having an off topic forum would make moderation a lot harder.

there are threads about movies, music, comics and books in the general disucssion already
Creating an off topic section will not do any good. Most of the people who randomly post in general will still post in general, oblivious to the newly formed off topic section and what might go in it.

General Discussion is fine, if people follow the rules. It's also important to remember that creating an off topic section won't magically allow people to start posting political views again.

Good luck in your quest.

Easiest solution would be to allow users to hide topics. Similar to the way we can mark them as favorite and pinned to the top, these would go to a special "hidden" section and not appear while just browsing the general forum. The first page always being polluted with some perpetual threads makes searching for interesting topics more difficult.

And as the vast majority of people posts into general anyway because game specific forums are dead in most cases, it would help with organizing them at least.

XKCD is great and that one's a classic.
