So I'm playing a game a pop-up comes up RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF MY EFFING GAME (GO TO HELL MICROSOFT) saying this NEW, BIG, WIndows 10 update is here and should I restart now.

Is there any way, ANY WAY POSSIBLE, to just NOT DO THIS???? I'm afraid of turning off my computer. I'm afraid of leaving it on. I just pressed "X" on the that pop-up box to close it instead of clicking "Restart Now" or "Pick a Time."

What is it with you Microsoft, are you TRYING to turn more people to Linux?
In Windows 10 Pro you can defer updates for a while. I'm guessing in yours you can't.
I use both Windows and Linux regularly. The one thing I hate the most in Windows is its lousy updater.

I cannot understand how they can break your full-screen running program. Way to ensure people get mad.

I do not happen to know what happens if you just close the popup asking when to restart, sorry.

Can you explain what is up with what you said here? will the pc die if it turns off? or will it not turn on anymore due to a problem???

I'm afraid of it updating if I turn it off. And I'm afraid of it updating if I leave it on. I DO NOT WANT this "new and improved" Windows 10 or whatever the hell it's supposed to be.

I got the new update the creators update or whatever it's called and so far the only thing that screwed up was my cheap 30 dollar hp printer drivers. and got a new printer from epson for better reliability.

if you run DXDIAG and have no issues with graphics and audio drivers then do the update for security reason and just keep up to date in general. if you run an ssd then be happy cause it shaved 2 seconds of boot time off for me with this new update.

sometimes going into the fray is well worth it even though it's microsoft :P

if you want it to do a secure update without turning off when doing the big update then go to the settings and make it update from doing the reset update option thing to start the update and upgrade but will reset pc when done and boot back to desktop.

So NOT UPDATING is NOT AN OPTION?

you can always decide to totally disable windows Update and never update again but it's generally a bad idea. Concerning updating to "named" updates, (i.e. Anniversary, Creators, don't remember how the next one is called) normally you can delay them for them for some time but I don't think you can refuse them forever. (Unless you totally disable windows update)

For better and for worse Windows 10 uses rolling release distribution like some Linux distro (Arch for example), the good thing is that you don't need to buy the updated version and your Os is always kept up to date, the bad is that, well, your OS is always kept up to date whenever you like it or not.

Concerning the creator update, the changes are barely noticeable, some mostly useless "gamer" features, some improvement in cortana (in case you haven't disabled it), a couple of extra privacy settings and a 3D paint tools nearly as usefully as the old paint.
I'd recommend installing an app to help you better manage your Windows 10 settings.

I use O&O ShutUp 10.

Along with a ton of other privacy and customize options you can choose to "Activate deferring of upgrades", which should delay the Creator's Update until next year at this time while letting you get security updates.

I'd block off some time and just install it though. Might as well get used to it as this is gonna happen yearly with Windows 10.
Already being allowed to pick a time when to install is a big improvement. None of this: "Restarting computer to install updates now" <pc shuts down in the middle of whatever you were doing> (I cannot remember the exact wording as when it happens one tends to see red and have problems seeing the text clearly.)
Okay, I bit the bullet and did it. Immediately afterward a screen comes up about privacy settings, so I turn everything off that I can.

And now Windows Defender is telling me my device "may be vulnerable."

WTF? I sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo HAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTEEEEEEEEE Microsoft. If I had a brain I'd switch to Linux in a heartbeat (where's Scarecrow with that brain anyway?).

So can anyone tell by looking at the "actions recommended" (screenshot) what the hell they mean and whether or not my "device IS or IS NOT vulnerable" rather then "may be?" I'm guessing no since there's not a lot of information there, but maybe someone is already familiar with those two things and understands what they are.

I'm so sorry for this. But I'm an old man. I've been using computers since the 1970's. (anyone remember the little cards with holes punched in them???? LOL).

And for a long time most all of the changes around technology were good. No longer. It seems everything is forced down your throat, you have less and less "choice" over how YOUR HARDWARE is being used, and instead of just getting, you know, an operating system that you can decide and run which programs on, the operating system itself is becoming one large conglomeration of programs to tell you how to use your computer.

Did I mention I hate Microsoft?

Sure wish I had a brain.

The first warning is because the "Cloud-based Protection" setting is turned off in Windows Defender. I believe that settings is used to protect you from threats that may not be in the current virus defenitions yet. It's probably a good idea to turn it on if Windows Defender is your only anti-virus.

The second warning is that SmartScreen is disabled for Windows Store apps. Smartscreen is supposed to protect you from sideloading known malware apps. It wouldn't hurt to have that enabled too.
