Hi, I feel burned out with the overused RPG themes; however, I still itch for the RPG genre.

I've supported the Africa theme RPG (beautiful desolation) and the cthulhu rpg at kickstarter. Have already finished age of decadence and did play arcanum though didn't like it due to the level scaling and combat system. Shadowrun trilogy (other than the first one) were also fun, and since it got magic with cyberpunk it was a refreshing experience.

Are there any games that you would recommend?

I game on a laptop with I5 4200u without internet access, so gog games only (no drm issue).

Hard West?, Its the only one I can acutaly think of right now.
Wasteland and the fallout games.
Arcanum. Role Playing in a Steampunk world.
How about Freedom Force? It''s a great game, and if you have a fondness for superhero stuff, particularly golden and silver age, it's a real treat.

Never heard this game. Thanks, I'll put it on my wishlist.

Wasteland 2 lags a lot on the i5 4200u

Already beat fallout games long ago.

//

I've mentioned arcanum in my post

//

The superhero one looks cute, and it's turn based which is a bonus!!! Cannot really game a real time RPG with the built in laptop mouse. Thanks for the recommendation.

How about the first wasteland? It's awesome would definitely run, and is a small download.

No offense here, the first game feels a bit too old for me. I'm more comfortable with the pixel graphics after 90s (Might and magic III for example). The early 3d such as M&M 6 for me also feel hard used to.
RPG as a genre can get pretty broad, without any other restrictions I'll leave these recommendations:

Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines

Sunless Sea

The Age of Decadence

UnderRail

Chroma Squad

Undertale

Unrest

No worries, not everybody's taste, but I myself do find that game awesome.
I'm using RPG in a wider sense here, all the subgenres, some are actually action games with RPG elements, and you're probably familiar with some already:

- Albion (turn-based, sci-fi with non-standard fantasy, alien world)
- Dark Sun series (turn-based, well, it's D&D fantasy, but a more unusual, wasteland setting)
- Unlimited Adventures (turn-based, officially D&D fantasy, but you can play some custom modules with oriental and superhero setting; included in "Forgotten Realms Collection 2")
- Planescape: Torment (real time with pause, D&D fantasy but unusual setting)
- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2 (turn-based, space fantasy, not medieval)
- Jade Empire (action, oriental fantasy)
- Throne of Darkness (action, hack and slash Diablo-style, oriental fantasy; not on GOG yet but possibly upcoming release?)
- Titan Quest (action, hack and slash Diablo-style, technically similar to medieval fantasy, but set in Ancient Greece)
- Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines (action, modern day L.A., vampires, goth, cyberpunk)
- Costume Quest (turn-based, JRPG style, modern day Halloween, kid friendly, humorous)
- Anachronox (turn-based, JRPG style, sci-fi, dystopia, alien worlds)
- Consortium (action - not much of it though, short, sci-fi, dystopia)
- Deus Ex (action, cyberpunk)
- System Shock 2 (action, sci-fi, horror)
- Dex (action, platformer/metroidvania-like, cyberpunk)
- Alpha Protocol (action, modern day espionage, not on GOG but 'DRM-free' on GamersGate, so you could play it offline)
- Undertale (not really part of the genre, I guess, but comes in the disguise of a JRPG)

EDIT: Whoops, already ninja's on a few suggestions. :)

Avernum, a WRPG inspired by Ultima, but it takes place (for the most part) in a giant underground prison cave known as Avernum.

Geneforge is a RPG series themed around creature control and creation, and the titular Geneforge.
