Trilarion: I would be really nice if there would be a default setting for Auto Updates On or Off that could be set in the preferences, so you do not have to do this too often if you want automatic updates only in a minor number of cases or not at all but otherwise want to use Galaxy.
This isn't really any difficult. GOG developers are just a lazy bunch of ...
What I wanted to say is that Galaxy is not beta anymore and you can expect such goodies.
Foreros: When you install a game you can disable imediatly the auto update. If it is a problem for you, why havent you disabled it directly instaling the game/s?
Because I'm as lazy as most customers if not more. If I need to disable it anyway immediately after installation what about having it disabled by default and enabling it only when I need it? That would save a lot of clicks.
Making this a choice in the settings is exactly what I proposed and is not difficult to implement at all.
F4LL0UT: ... The thing is, though, that developers rarely push updates that break stuff, they certainly generally fix more stuff than they break. And especially save compatibility between patch versions is something that is generally ensured these days. Developers generally are aware of the responsibility that comes with auto updates.
And honestly, I don't remember the last time a patch forced me to start a game over. Even open world RPGs that may introduce big changes in the quest logic in patches (traditionally a nightmare in terms of save compatibility), usually maintain save compatibility these days.
I agree that patches are usually not more buggy than the previous state (although that happens too).
What bugs me is that often they don't improve things directly for me but rather patch some unrelated stuff (better Finnish translation, achievements, ...) and they always happen when I want to play the game. I want the game to start immediately. If Galaxy would patch my games silently while I'm not playing them...
So my rule of thumb is never update a game that runs fine.
