Frankly, while I enjoyed KOTOR and it's sequel very much, I don;t really like the Old Republic setting much. It always bothered me that here we are, thousands of years in the past, and yet everything is almost exactly the same. I know Star Wars is more fantasy than sci-fi in many ways, so I shouldn't mind, but in a setting with such advanced technology it really bothers me.

Umm.. for me SW is way more sci-fi than fantasy..
Space, planets, starships, explosions, lasers, robots, aliens, various futuristic technology.. what's more sci-fi than that?
The force surely adds some kind of "magic", but then Star Trek has Vulkan mind-meld or Asimov the Mule..

I'm not saying it's not sci-fi, I just meant that in some ways it operates by story cliches and tropes more often associated with fantasy. Knights, mystic forces, chosen ones, ghosts, prophecies etc. And while all sci-fi takes liberties with science to varying degrees, Star Wars throws all science out the airlock and force-chokes Stephen Hawking just to be sure. Also, It's not like something can't be a genre mix.

I worship Star Wars and think that Luke Skywalker kicks the shit out of Captain Kirk any day of the fucking week, but give me ONE THING scientific about Star Wars! :P

Warp drive, teleportation, is plausible, we just lack the energy capable of pulling it off.

Light speed? NO. Never.

I am not a big Trek guy but everything from the show and the movies is based around known scientific principle, not to mention the small aesthetic things like more realistic looking ships.

Yo I'm a big Trekkie, but I have to say when it comes to storytelling SW takes the cake.

You say that because SW is yet another retelling of classical mythology, as is Harry Potter, which you being s a fan (as am I) should recognize.

Harry = Luke
Dumbledore = Obi-Wan
Voldermort = Vader

Young naive youth, seemingly unimportant and heading for nothing but dreaming of one day breaking out of his boring squalor existence, is suddenly brought onto a mentor (an old and wise mentor) who teaches him that, not only is he is very special, but he is the catalyst of a great conflict, which will lead him to do battle with an ultimate "evil" who he will come to find out he is much closer to than perhaps even any ally or friend he ever had.

Throw in a few sidekicks, (Han, Ron) and some comic relief (C3P0, Hagrid) and you got a story.

Bingo! Same can be said for LOTR and countless others. ;)

Difference is the LOTR movies suck. :D

Not old enough to remember the first star wars movie. First star wars I ever watched was phantom menace on VHS. Was a kid back then. Those last days of VHS was pretty good. Could be my age but I like phantom menace, seeing darth maul as a kid was pretty badass. Then I remember reading some of the star wars books, the smaller ones. Not gonna lie I think jengo fett when people think boba fett. Anything of the sequals I can say I know about is through the family guy parodies. Haven't watched force awakens or rogue one.

I feel alone in this group. Anyone know more about star wars through books and games then movies? I remember getting battlefront 2 on ps2 and thinking who the hell is luke skywalker? Who is chewbacca? Who is han solo? Literally only noticed qui gon obi wan darth maul and anakin.

Aaaah I'm not even that old by several years. Being stuck growing up with prequals is weird.
