GOG have added a Linux and Mac version of The Witcher 2.

The Linux version is a whopping 19.73 GB file, and has a checksum via the GOG API.

The Mac version is 4 files, and none of them have a checksum, and only one of them is an expected Mac file - PKG.

The following are the four files (or parts) listed.

the_witcher_2__assassins_of_kings_enhanced_edition_english_2_1a.pkg
GameData_1_aa
GameData_1_ab
GameData_1_ac
I'm not familiar with those GameData files with no file extension (or folders). Are they legit?
Or are they something leftover or unfinished when it comes to packaging as a PKG file etc?

The PKG file is 11.57 Gb, and the first two of the GameData files (or folders) are 4 GB each, and the remaining one is 1.79 Gb.

The file names are the same, whether via a browser link download or the GOG API.

I've now done further fruitless searches on the web.

However, now that I have finally caught up with the recent updates to my GOG games, I decided to download the smallest of these weird named no file extension files.

It passed the listed file size check, so that's good, but of course failed the checksum test because there wasn't any.

I then tried to test with 7-Zip, because I knew it worked with PKG files, which these GameData_1_* files appear to be related to. That failed, until I used the open with # option.

Here's the results, which appear to be okay. But I am a bit dubious about all those SWF files, having seen similar before when 7-Zip cannot fully read something. Clearly I need to download the other two files and see what they report.

I guess that having passed the file size test and now seemingly the 7-Zip one, I probably don't need exact details, to decide the file is probably okay.

One day perhaps, I will find out fully, if I test on a Mac ... my daughter currently the only one with one in our household, and I doubt she wants me to play around with it ... perhaps if it was a game more to her taste.

I played around with alternate 7-zip settings, but no success. I even tried UnRAR and thought about trying WinRAR, which I don't have installed. The file passed the listed file size check, so I guess that will have to do. It is probably very unlikely that I will ever install the Mac version of the game anyway.

It's a bizarre way to distribute a Mac game, but legit.

Yeah, I got my wires crossed about that.
I didn't start collecting Linux versions until a few years later, and then a few years later again for Mac versions. And I misremembered a complaint by one of my Linux mates, complaining about only one Witcher game had a Linux version.
