Today for the first time I find myself genuinely pissed off at steam. My best friend's birthday is today, and I gifted him a steam Satellite Reign copy, which is on special. He just let me know that he couldn't redeem it because it is region locked to South Africa.
Am I missing something? Is there some way I can check this before purchasing? Now I want to gift him Pillars of Eternity instead, which is also on special, but I don't know how to check whether it is region locked?

Sigh yeah, I just didn't notice it :-\ and it turns out pillars of eternity is region locked to SA as well :(

Sigh, I even tried logging into his account locally (with his permission of course) to buy the game directly in pounds. However I couldn't change the country of my billing address without changing the default store and country to SA, so even that was a no-go.
I ended up just transferring him the money and telling him it was for Satellite Reign :P

You could've just bought it at the Humble Store instead and gifted it to him from there. I was going to mention that, but then forgot, sorry.

That's ok thanks, that would've been too expensive for me in any case, about 4.5 times more than steam's special offer at the moment.
