Anno 1404 Gold Edition, the city-building RTS set during the dawn of the Renaissance, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com with a 33% launch discount.

Arguably, the course of human history and our cultural footprint are mainly defined by a constant drive for discovery and evolution. But would these fine qualities even exist if they were not prompted by our insatiable hunger for power and financial gain?

Anno 1404 Gold Edition speaks of a time when large-scale endeavors like the Crusades, the hanseatic trade, and the ushering of the Renaissance provided numerous opportunities for business and conflict between rising powers. You, as the newly appointed ruler of a fictional fiefdom, are in the perfect position to seize these opportunities and become a prominent player in this tug of war. Efficient trading and fearless exploration across the globe will be your bread and butter, but should circumstances call for conflict, your combat readiness will also be tested on both land and sea. You must manage your population, build majestic gothic cathedrals, and expand your influence in both the Occident and the Orient, as you become one of the pioneers of capitalism.

Build and expand your empire by trading goods and blows with foreign kingdoms in Anno 1404 Gold Edition, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 33% discount will last until January 19, 1:59 PM GMT.
Best anno,but only after 1503

ShadowPatriarch: And speaking of old gems that are nowhere else to be found, The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth I and II would be another awesome addition.
Probably stuck in license limbo since EA doesn't have the LotR movie license any longer.
A great release, have the Disc version (which can be turned DRM-Free using latest patch). However this might be the last Anno game we'll see here (I wish I'm wrong) and I say this because anything that was released Post-UPlay hasn't come to GOG yet.

Well, you are wrong in a way. Rayman Origins was released on the PC close to three years after Uplay launched.
It would be more correct to say that nothing that has been tied to Uplay has made its way here yet.

Knew I missed one! xD

The worst part for me is that Anno 2070 is the only one I'm interested in due to it's futuristic setting, and also the only one tied to U-(DON'T)Play.
You are late, GOG! :P

I got this game a week ago from a German game magazine and started to play it last weekend. :)

Nice to see the game arriving here, even with German language support. Good job! I'm sure I'll buy it here too just to have another backup. But I have time to wait for a higher discount now. ;)

GOG, you made me to spend 9 euros which I was NOT supposed to be spending.

However, I wholeheartedly considered this money to be WELL spend, since this game is a true gem and having it DRM free is definitely worth these 9 euros.

Matruchus: What's the problem? Multiplayer on gog is always drmed be it galaxy or some developer specific system.
Not always. But LAN multiplayer support without needing logins or keys is more than a lot of other games provide. I would be quite happy when every game on GOG would provide that. Of course, the best solution always would be an open-sourced dedicated server. ;)
Nice to see it finally here :)

You should be able to play the game via LAN without needing anything.

Vythonaut: Oh oh oh GREAT RELEASE!!!!!! Thank you Ubisoft, thank you GOG!

This is my personal anti-stress game, I really enjoy building small beautiful communities (the graphics are just perfect!) and then observe all those little people getting on with their lives while listening to the magnificent soundtrack. There are so many little details in Anno 1404; just zoom in and take a look at all these people walking, working, meeting together, sometimes talking and other times fighting, getting drunk outside taverns or zoom out to admire your newfound community from high above.

From a technical side, the graphics are wonderfully colorful and the textures are very nice whether you are in the Orient or the Occident, the sound is topknotch, the UI is not only beautiful but it works too. The soundtrack, as I wrote above, is simply great and soothing.

Maybe I'm a bit biased but I can't find any faults in this game. It has everything I wanted in a city building/ trading sim.

[...]
Cheers, listening to the soundtrack as I type.

That's what I tried to say. This game is better than a lot of others here on GOG as it provides a DRM free LAN multiplayer mode. Sorry for not being clear enough. :)

The only minor complain I have is that you cannot move the camera completely free in this game. You can't change zoom rate and viewing height independently of each other as you can in many modern 3D applications.

Dammit, I finally broke down and bought this on Steam during the winter sale because it had been so long absent on GOG. Now I'll have to buy it again, eventually. Ah well......
Well.... it is good to see how GoG's curated quality controller works. This game is as great as it is possible to become! :)

Thanks GoG, keep up the good work! You are the best of the bestest.
Really? More remakes of Freddi Fish 2? Come on GOG, give us the original already. >:(
