You know the thing about chaos? It's fair.

Chaos Reborn, a tactical strategy/RPG of magical battles, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com for Windows, Mac and Linux with a 50% launch discount.

Magical warfare is as much a battle of wits as it is of well-honed skill and pure cosmic happenstance. Sweeping waves of fire, ground-shattering earthquakes or gigantic sapphire dragons may not suggest strong elements of strategic thinking at first glance. Learning how and whether to use each spell, though, that's what distinguishes a respectable spellcaster from a sideshow trickster.

The Realms of Chaos are in constant turmoil and this is your opportunity to outsmart your magic-wielding opponents, both in multiplayer and single-player scenarios. The turn-based combat and the bluffing mechanics call for careful positioning and shrewd misdirection akin to a game of chess or even poker. Βut no matter how well you prepare, be sure to always stay on your toes as the gear customization options and the chances of spell misfires will pose chaotic challenges, resulting in an intense cocktail of mentally engaging fun.

“Chaos Reborn is already a brilliant update of an absolute classic.” -- Eurogamer

Utilise your arcane bluffing skills to spread deliberate Chaos Reborn, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 50% launch discount will last until December 30 1:59 PM GMT.
So tempting, since I played all the original Gollop games way back when (fave was Laser Squad). Probably won't play it soon, but the debut price makes it damned appealing.
Great, another game I have backed on kickstarter and hope I get a GOG key for it! Great release!
With all the sales going on, this is a nice surprise - instabought, unlike some other wishlist items. =)
Love this game so far!
Thank you gog! :*

p.s. Never heard of it before, but had a good feeling about it and it's better! :D

Phaidox: Oooh, that's interesting. VERY interesting.
How's the single player campaign? Last time I checked (pre-release info found all over the web), multiplayer was the meat of the game?
avatar
Matruchus: They released the singleplayer campaign today. I guess this is why gog released the game now since it didn't have full singleplayer before.
I always thought it was meant to be a multiplayer game (hence why i never backed it on KS - mp centric games are not for me). ?. Anyone comment on whether SP is worth it alone?
Looks intriguing, very appealing price + never herd about this game.

Wishlisted.
My wallet is still dry from Christmas sales. Just wait for the next month though ;)

Some discussion of that over here:

I'm endorsing the SP, but I'd also recommend SP folk give async (quite like play-by-mail) MP/ PvP a go. If you mute your opponent, you can pretend asynch MP is SP anyway;)

More (free) SP content should be arriving from the developer, and as (sufficiently high-ranked) players can create their own content, there should be a ton of SP to come.
Not bad; I did think this game had closer to 400 votes instead of 50, though.
Looks nice but the RNG warning in the game page is putting me off. Anyone knows how random it really is?

Siegor: Looks nice but the RNG warning in the game page is putting me off. Anyone knows how random it really is?
I feel like the RNG warning is for people who don't understand that something with a 90% of success will fail one time in ten, or perhaps people who think that if you flip a coin 5 times, if it comes up heads 5 times *then reality is broken* :o. Or, of course, just for people who don't like random aspects in their games.
Skilled players can maintain win-rates in Chaos Reborn ranked play of 80% in duels. I'm not a great player by any stretch, I have a win-rate of 70% out of 24 duel games in the last ranked/ equipped season (61%/13 in 3-way, 18%/11 in 4-way (I really got murdered in some of the 4-ways:D)).
As the warning states, the important thing is to learn to *manage* the risks presented by the RNG; rather than think "my 60% shot on that dragon looks tasty", think "what will I do with the 40% chance that the shot fails".
If you've played XCOM EU/ EW even on Classic (certainly on Impossible/Ironman Impossible) you should know what to expect.
There has been extensive discussion of how random the game is on the Steam forums. I think the warning was added to the Steam store page because some people were enraged at how the game played out.
The tutorials and mostly unrestricted PvP are available via the free demo on Steam (not sure if the demo is on GOG), playing the tutorial and associated challenges should give you a reasonable feel for the game.
I should perhaps say that to some extent the tutorial gets a little less random as it progresses, a lot of features are missing from the initial tutorial to teach the basics: manipulating the random outcomes is introduced a little later on.
^^^All of that said, the game is obviously not chess. There's a lot of strategy involved, but some of the fun is enjoying that rare moment when your lowly goblin manges to punch out a dragon; or conversely, "enjoying" howling in rage when an enemy rat survives three shots and then eats your wizard:)

Can't we get GOG upgrades ?

I really love customization and I don't care price .

I would guess from GOG's point of view to keep the system easy to use and as the others appear to only add cosmetic additions maybe GOG thought it was not worth their headache.
As for the real answer I would suggest contacting the developers as they will probably have a better answer.
Looking at the prices I also wonder if GOG feels like moving into those sorts of figures. $100 for a game.

Sounds very promising. :)

And I thought finally an interesting new game in only one definite version on GOG ... Does that mean there's danger we will get complete, extended, collector and whatever editions very soon?

I don't think there is any chance of nonsense editions being pushed out to grab cash.
I believe that the in-app purchases you see at the moment are there to allow people who missed the initial Kickstarter to support the developer, and to get into content creation (etc) early.
I'm sure the developer would be more than happy to provide an upgrade if you get in touch with them: I believe your "social rank" (forgemaster, lord, king etc) is stored on the developer's servers, and has nothing to do with the game executable or distribution platform.
I'd hope some kind of distribution-platform-independent mechanism would be forthcoming at some point (I'm assuming the in-game purchase mechanism is always Steam, but I don't know for sure, I didn't buy on GOG). You may get a faster answer over on the official forums:

Wait wait wait, did you say in-app purchase? Is there really that kind of thing in this game?
