igrok: It's an independent game (although using the same engine), so why would they be?
It should, at least for Wolves at the Gates, which is more medieval than antiquity.

FoG II covers the time period up to 1040 AD. FoG II: Medieval covers the period from 1040 AD to 1270 AD. Wolves at the Gates has most battles from early middle ages (VII-IX centuries), so no, it doesn't come under the period of the second game. Besides, this DLC doesn't work with it (at least officially). I think FoG II: Medieval will get its share of own DLCs eventually.

Word of warning - multiplayer via Slitherine's PBEM is annoying and far from comfortable. Sadly, it seems that it's the only multiplayer form supported by the game (fortunately, it's not the thing for all games published by Slitherine, e.g. Gladius has also direct IP and hot-seat).

Eh, feel a bit tempted with this game, because historical period is (for me) more interesting than Field of Glory II or FoG: Empires.

Do any of these maps have a open campaign where you can conquer Europe etc? Or is it just a linear series of maps?

No, for that you need to play Field of Glory: Empires (which is a very different game). This game is more like a medieval battle simulator, so the concept of conquering land on a historic map doesn't represent anything meaningful in the game. There are historic campaigns though.
