Fight for the future of Japan in Tokyo Clanpool – now available on GOG!

Tokyo Clanpool is a dungeon RPG where you’ll take your party of heroines deeper and deeper into the tower to counter the monster threat and learn the truth of its origin. Equip Digiskins to customize characters’ skills and abilities while navigating mazelike corridors in first-person perspective. Turn-based combat is fast and strategic, and with your team’s ether-based powers, you can even float or dig tunnels to alter the structure of dungeons.

Check it out!
I will buy this if it gets an uncensored patch and they add Japanese text support.

Gersen: Did anybody asked him if there was any chance of having an uncensor patch available later, similar to what happened with Mary Skelter 2 ?
avatar
tremere110: Basically he would have to talk to the developer to see if something like that can be done.

The game was uncensored initially (ready for release) and the developers had to rush to remove content. Steam still refused to host the game and Nintendo restricted it to Asia initially - maybe a global release will happen later. All that work to censor and still getting screwed over must be disheartening. There's a whole fascinating discussion over on discord about it - way too much to screenshot and post here though. I am posting the most relevant parts regarding Gog directly.
Thanks for providing those screenshots. While the censorship is disappointing, the fact that those were holdovers from when the publisher was trying to get the game on Steam at least confirms that there was no malicious intent. I think this will be my very second dungeon RPG I've ever tried.

tremere110: I guess it's censored after all:

Sigh,.....off the wishlist it goes.
According to the twitter it's not impossible they will patch the stuff in though, I mean I don't blame the Dev anyways.
The west is stupid about Pixels again.

It won't get Japanese text support. Despite the publisher advertising on their site worldwide availability on GOG, they have chosen not to license the game for sale on PC + Switch in Japan. So not only did they purposefully withhold information about missing game content, but they outright lied about availability too. And as such, you won't get Japanese text as they didn't license it.

Gah I need these types of games with Japanese text as Japanese practice too. Also how can I trust translations nowadays, too many are getting tampered with nowadays so learning Japanese is a necessity.
People, let's be honest here. The kind of content that was "censored" would have been illegal in most countries; Yes they could make an uncensored patch available off-site, but that too would be illegal in many countries; so what do you want the publisher to do? break the laws?

More importantly, despite them removing the problematic content, they still got blocked from releasing the game on most platforms/regions. And instead of supporting both the publisher for trying to release that game, and GOG for accepting the title, you are complaining and refuse to buy the game or are asking for refund. The only thing this will end up doing is no publishers will try to release those Japanese games ever again in the West, censored or not. So who will win? All the western companies (VISA...) that try to censor Japanese/Asian media, even when they complies whit the local/international laws.

I wasn't planning on purchasing the game at release, because I have so many other games to play already but in the end I'll get it to show my support.

Absolute BS. You have full on western developed porn games sold on Steam, uncensored. There's few of them on here, too. You have more graphic nudity and actual sex scenes in western developed games published by Sony. The only difference here, is that Japanese developers dared to provide a little light-hearted fanservice of "rubbing" of-age FICTIONAL characters that aren't designed to look photo realistic instead of providing graphic scenes of topless characters being banged from behind.

And the more you support this biased censorship, the more platform holders will get away with it. So yes, people should be refusing to buy this if they don't want it censored. It drives a very clear message home to everyone involved: We don't want or support this racist application of censorship.

Apparently they was "only" able to release the HK version of Switch and indeed the GOG version. In the end the "fans" world wide will simply import the HK version... yet it still will get lesser sales this way, this is certain. Zero clue regarding other platforms: Either they did not even bother or it has been rejected. The issue is that i... we lack so many infos about what has happened exactly and what has been "censored" in the end.

Disagree all you want, but laws in many countries makes it illegal to represent sexual activities with fictional characters whose design could be interpreted as under-aged even if said characters are of-age. And like it or not, a lot of people in the West consider anime-style character design to look immature/under-aged. See Wikipedia f you need to learn more about actual laws.

Yes, it's a biased view on Japanese anime-style character design. I know very well that that kind of design is used a lot to depict adults (even in their 30s/40s) in Japan, and I don't think there's anything wrong with the characters in Tokyo Clanpool but that's not the reality the publisher has to deal with, no matter what you, others or I believe about this subject.

By your logic they should not sell any NSFW games at all. Sexual content is illegal in India, Saudi Arabia and many other states.
The laws on fictional depictions are wildly varying in the west, for GOG though only the polish Law should matter, which I admit I don't know. I find these laws silly anyways as we are talking about Pixels so yeah the "West" and its feels.
Also we are not even talking about sexual content in the first place here, were talking Ecchi.

Mind you I know why Steam, Nintendo and maybe even GOG might want this game censored.
Has nothing to do with laws but we in the west also live in an outrage society and the outrage of soccer Moms knows no bounds.(And that again can cost money).

Whats the problem? GOG got "region lock" such as any other shop. In term something is illegal in Japan, India or whatever... they can simply "block" those regions from being able to access this game.

Sure, the customers could circumvent it but at least there is no issue with the law for GOG.

I do not know the Polish laws; what i can say is: GOG was already releasing games that has been banned on many other places, actually any place except GOG. If you can not release it here... it works nowhere except "a totally private developer website" but no "official shop".

it's not about 'winning', it's about getting what you want, simple as that. It's a little bit disingenuous to advocate for people to buy what they, clearly, don't want (censored products) to 'own the VISA' or whatever

Enforced by the society?

Well, not sure GOGs signature is "big enough" to become noticed by that "outraged society"... i mean "Soccer Moms", yet it is a interesting view. Those people are usually a bit dumb, so they need to sufficiently know the name of the platform they try to pick. GGG... barely able to spell it out... Steam, that works!

In theory someone could provide a patch in order to "put back the censored content" but.... as long as this content has not been released on any place world wide, it will become impossible. On Switch this is a difficult task (locked environment) but for the GOG version no issue at all.

Just to be clear, "only" the minigame is affected? Question is how big of a loss it actually is.

I would not reimburse the game because in the end, most likely the devs simply felt like they "had no other choice" and they already had been "banned" on Steam and probably many other places. So they had in mind "to play it safe now" and the only places left it actually "worked" is GOG and Switch HK. Perhaps some even smaller places may work as well but the sales will be lower there, and if they could release it completely uncut there is a good question.

However... i hope there is some way they can still somehow offer the censored minigame without facing legal consequences... no matter directly on GOG or on a "external site".

I actually would prefer them not to release games in the west. Adding english subtitles to the eastern release is good enough. Or Fan translations also exist. If nothing else one can try to learn Japanese then it also has an extra use ;)

Well think that is what people are hoping for, just an uncensor patch on a different site.
And yeah like I said I don't blame the Dev, I even assume it's not even a big part of the game. Buying a censored game is just not happening with me, no matter how small or what censorship it is.

And you're probably right, GOG is not as much of a target as steam but I bet they get their fair share of outrage. Pretty obvious in most NSFW Game threads lol

Not really; yes some countries have stupid laws that includes fictional characters, but here there is nothing even remotely pornographic here even by US standard. (And let's not mention that a lot of European are a lot more lenient in what is considered "pornography" compared to US or even Japan). Here the minigame is very close to the one included in Mary Skelter, no nudity at all.

It's more a case of some companies being overzealous on enforcing censorship (i.e. Steam, Nintendo US) rather than anything related to legality.
