I was just waiting for a fantasy-themed chess game like this, which is not from the very early 90s, like Battle Chess, so I can be sure that this one does actually does work without the usage of Dosbox. Therefore, I could not resist in wishlisting it right now, as 9,99 Euro seems to be pretty steep to me for a game of 22 years, so I'd like to wait for a discount right now, although I obviously appreciate the work that GOG has surely done on this one, to make sure it runs on modern engines, not to mention modern Windows versions.
By the way, speaking of Windows versions, does anyone already know if War Chess also works on Windows 7? My old gaming computer from December 2014 (please don't laugh) still has Windows 7, yet GOG writes on the game's page that it runs on Windows 10 and 11 only. Interesting, the same lack of information goes for Battle vs Chess, but this one is quite expensive, compared to War Chess, even when considering the discount it got right now. I wish GOG would be more clear about this matter. I mean, I expect a game from 2003, therefore War Chess, to run on Windows 7 too, if it can run on Windows 10 and 11, but I have learned to never be sure entirely, unfortunately, as I have already bought a few games on GOG years ago, way older than this one, that do not work on Windows 7.
By the way, my favorite Chess videogame that I have just loved to play was Lego Chess. I still own the Lego Chess King with the throne that was part of the box, the game is from 1998. It was actually the game that also teached me how to play Chess and learn all the expert tricks as well, thanks to the Chess King, the same that you can build, who leads you through a very large tutorial, in which you can even earn achievements, if you are doing exceptionally well. It may be a game for children, but even adults will be able to learn Chess with this one. I still had the original CD many years after, but there was no way to play the game on Windows 7, so I hope that one day GOG can get this one too. It also features two campaigns, one with a Western and one with a Pirate scenario, with Lego figures, obviously. When they take each other out, a funny video is being played, depending on which figure strikes which figure. Indeed, those were the days...
