Have it your way.

Way of The Samurai 4, a crazy, feudal samurai adventure, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 40% launch discount.

You haven't roamed like this before (unless you played this series before). Way of the Samurai is a previously Playstation exclusive series that's famous for being positively ridiculous, and immensely influenced by your own choices. The series premieres on PC with Way of the Samurai 4, the biggest, most malleable entry so far. You arrive at a fictional Japanese port in a vaguely feudal setting, from this point on - the story is yours.

Way of the Samurai 4 presents a uniquely Japanese take on nonlinearity. You're both capable of changing the world around you, and impressively insignificant.
The world isn't going to wait up for you to make up your mind, events will continue taking place, and the end is inevitable. How you choose to play the cards you're dealt, and whether you decide do anything at all, will affect the outcome. Beneath an action-adventure layer, the game is also a true role playing sandbox - become a samurai hero, a selfish bandit, or a suave, silent protagonist. You'll have a huge amount of control in creating your character or how you play him, and if you ever want to interrupt a cutscene by slashing everyone to pieces, well, that's your prerogative.

You can also pick up the Way of The Samurai 4 DLC Pack, including new missions, new weapons, new clothing, and returning characters! Check it out.

Walk your path in the Way of The Samurai 4, available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. The launch discount will last for one week, until October 9, 12:59 PM GMT.

toxicTom: I... couldn't resist. Well...

... I'll try to see it as an early birthday present... downloading now...
I'd be interested to hear what you think of it.
I've heard some conflicting opinions about it.
That the combat is pretty bad for example.

Hmm, well I hope it's not too hard. I generally are not really good with third person combat (like i.e. Prince of Persia - Sands of Time).
Ahh, WotS4, I had high hopes for that game, after fantastic WotS3. While many people will say this is best WotS it's my least favourite. My main gripe with it is that your actions from one playthrough will have effect in next playthroughs (like a certain place being opened/closed etc.).But it's still a nice game to have here.

Important for PC players! Right analog stick is very important in fighting system so mouse and keyboard combo will probably suck.

On the very interesting 30vs60 fps I'm that guy that prefers 30fps in most games. I can tell the difference, I agree that 60 is more responsive and therefore better on sole technical side, but I still prefer 30. Why? Because in most games 60+ fps will look unnatural, kind of like it's slightly sped up when it isn't. I'm someone who can't watch movies if lipsynch is even a nanosecond off, so this kind of visual inconsistency just pisses me off. Take http://30vs60.com/ for example. Far Cry 3 looks minimally sped up. Switch it to Battlefield 4 and the sped up rate seems higher, especially on driving bit.

But then again, there are games that do 60+fps properly. Gran Turismo 6 runs at (mostly) stable 60fps and I have no problems with it. Though if I don't use cockpit or on mask cameras I can't drive properly, while in GTAV which is 30fps locked I don't have problems with third person driving.

I suspect that the whole issue with fps' is because we are basically looking at 2d image. While things on this image change their position our eyes don't perceive it as such, because nothing moved in the 3d space, so they just replace the image without doing anything. Take your hand before your face and swing it left and right. Then grab some window on your PC and drag it left and right at about same speed as your hand before). You'll notice that visual effect, if I can even call them that, are different for hand and window. If you had 30Hz monitor those effects should be more similar than on 60Hz monitor and 120Hz etc.
do i get it right, the dlc is basically just shit for 10 bucks, which schould be included in the game for free?

First impressions:
Hmm, what to say. Key and mouse might work well if you don't mind tinkering with the key bindings until you feel comfortable. Controller might work better from the ground off, but I'm not much of a controller person (although I have a Logitech PS2-controller ripoff).
The tutorial is the typical "Japanese overload". I've learned so many movement/combat options that I feel my head explodes. Will need a chart... And play it all over again.
The beginning is just hilarious - LOL is the best descriptions. Like a J-Version of Saint's Row. And a game that features Melinda Megamelons can't be all bad...

OK so the translation team had fun :P
If I'm reading the gamecard right the audio is Japanese, is that correct?

Yes, and that's among the things that I found most intriguing. I know a little Japanese and the translation is rather loose, but fitting (from the very few things I understood). There are English subtitles of course. Sadly the supposed "English" characters speak perfect Japanese too, would have added an extra edge if they were speaking English, at least to each other. Can't have everything I guess.

Awesome, I hate dubs with a passion.
Would you want the British to be voiced by British actors or Japanese actors?
Because English in anime tends be fairly awful :P

British would be preferable, but English by Japanese voice actors would certainly fit the crazy mood of the game too :-)
ALL YOUR MELONS ARE BELONG TO US!

HA HA HA HA HA HA!
Well, this is disappointing. Apparently, WotS 4 DID get a re-release with all the DLC included in Japan called WotS 4 Plus. Granted, this happened after the localisation of the PS3 version, but it still happened way before the PC release of the game. So Ghostlight could have released it all together as WotS 4 Plus, but chose not to. A real bummer. =(

I'll probably still get the game, but only the base game.

Got it, but what is all this nonsense about complete version? Is there more DLC not included in the GOG DLC version?

No, no, I think GOG got all the DLC minus the one that is essentially buying power. It's just that, for some of us, it's a shame that it isn't being sold together in a unified edition as it happened in Japan.
Interesting to see such a release on GOG. Maybe i'll buy it here.
I thought the launch discount was supposed to last until October 9th? Was that a mistake?
