Should I get Darklands during this sale?

Pros:
* Non-XP based growth system.
* Appears to be an unconventional design.

Cons:
* Real time with pause combat. (At least it can't be said to be copying Baldur's Gate,)
* Witches appear as enemies, but not as playable characters.

Also, one question: Apparently characters can grow old. Can you create new young characters to replace them?

Another game I've been looking into is The Dark Heart of Uukrul. Is that game any good?

(If you're going to recommend any other games in this topic, please make sure that they're around the same age as these two games, and not something more modern.)

That's awfully nice of you. Darklands is a nice game that deserves to be gifted and played.

That too.

But I'm genuinely interested in dtgreene's opinion on both of the mentioned games. Dark Heart is a legend of it's own, partly because of the punishing difficulty level, but also the game design is regarded as pretty brilliant.

We both love RPGs, but for very different reasons.

Darklands could actually offer some common grounds.... :-) Or not.

Darklands is a game that should really get a cautious remake - just make it pretty to attract more people. I mean, it wasn't a beauty when it was released in terms of visuals. But it's so fascinating.
Guess I should have asked if I should get [redacted].

I mean [redacted].

What the hell is wrong with this thing? I GUESS I SHOULD HAVE ASKED IF I SHOULD GET [redacted]!

Oh, come on.

I think MattChat has a several hours long video about The Dark Heart of Uukrul, He gives a broad introduction and then plays it. It is not really the game for me, but perhaps you should check your chat...why watch it, when you can play it.

HuniePop?
I recommend Serpent in the Staglands as well. It is something of a spiritual successor to Darklands.

Anyone who cites Matt Chat is ok in my book! ;)

Just go for it as long it doesn't hurt your wallet.

You can retire individual party members at any time at an Inn. You can also recruit new party members at an Inn. You can replace them with young or even old characters.
