SIGIL™ is a free megawad for the original 1993 DOOM® created by John Romero. It contains nine single-player and nine deathmatch levels. The free megawad will be released in mid- February 2019 and requires players own the original 1993 registered version of DOOM® in order to play. SIGIL™ is the spiritual successor to the fourth episode of DOOM®, and picks up where the original left off.

In addition to the free megawad, SIGIL also releases in two limited edition fan boxes created by Limited Run Games. The fan boxes feature music by metal guitar legend Buckethead, including a custom song written expressly for SIGIL, and cover art by Christopher Lovell whose iconic, detailed work has been featured on numerous metal albums. (Note: The free megawad does not ship with Buckethead’s music or Christopher Lovell’s art.)

SIGIL Announcement

Lots of tight corridors - that what strikes me most in that trailer footage.
So basically a 5th episode from one of the original creators. Will keep an eye on this. The only extra thing I would be interested in is the Romero's Head on a spike and maybe the signed box.

Let's just hope Romero comes up with a new retro-FPS after this, like he planned a few years ago (though that concept in particular didn't really catch my interest).

Anyway, I'm looking forward to playing this.

I'm putting my money on a Daikatana 2 release. I can't leave without my buddy Superfly!
Well, I wonder who still owns the original game.
There are sure not many copies left in the world. Romero should make it possible to play it with the GoG version of DOOM!

It should work fine on the GOG version if it's just adding a .WAD file. A better solution though rather than struggle with DOSBox is:-

1. Download GZDoom and install.

2. Copy your WAD files (eg, DOOM.WAD, DOOM2.WAD, PLUTONIA.WAD, TNT.WAD, etc) into GZDoom folder. Also works with Heretic, Hexen & Strife. Adds widescreen, OpenGL, anti-aliasing, mouse-look, removes 35fps cap, etc and make it a loss more pleasant and less frustrating to play.

If anyone's interested, Plutonia 2 and TNT: Revilution WAD's (unoffical sequels to Final Doom's The Plutonia Experiment & TNT: Evilution) are here free:-

Funny thing is, I actually like Daikatana as a concept, and I really had some good fun with it. A sequel/reboot would certainly spark my interest, though I think it would work better as a Zelda like game than an FPS.

Now, I do think Romero would still favor a design that, like Daikatana, favors a wide variety of time periods and scenarios. In fact, that was exactly what that retro shooter he tried to kick-start a few years ago was about, right?
Drat, just realized that the preorders closed December 24th.
It's the middle of Feburary, is Sigil out yet?
SIGIL update for @romero fans! We hit a few snags in production trying to make sure everything is top-notch for the fans! We just wanted to let everyone know who purchased either the Big Box or the Beast Box, that it is now going to ship in April.

The digital release may have been pushed back to April as well.

:(
I've waited 26 years for Doom 1 Episode 5, I can wait another couple of months :-)
Hopefully it will work with normal ZDoom for me :D.

There's no indication why it shouldn't.

I just wanted to update you on SIGIL. There were a few snags in production trying to make sure everything is top-notch for fans! I just wanted to let everyone who purchased either the Big Box or the Beast Box know that it is now looking like it will ship sometime in April. Thank you for your patience, and I am sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. This also means the free version of SIGIL will have to wait until after the boxes are in the hands of customers.
