I missed this entire thing because I was (still am) travelling for work. I'm not sure whether to be relieved or uber depressed.

Having said that, going just off the list you put above how about these three?
1.) Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura (for turn-based epic RPG goodness)
2.) Theme Park (for a management sim itch)
3.) Kings Quest (for adventure itch, plus you get to have 3 games as opposed to 1 for a single install)
FYI about Arcanum: if you are the kind of person who is okay with installing fan-made patches, there is a great one out that restores much of the cut content and fixes a lot more bugs than the last official patch (see this thread here: http://www.gog.com/forum/arcanum_of_steamworks_and_magick_obscura/must_have_arcanum_fan_patches_widescreen_and_more/page1).
Again, just suggestions. If you want to do only one genre, or even a single franchise within the same genre, go for it.
Ultimately, up to you and whatever you are in the mood for playing, and you would best be able to determine based on your prior road-trip experience what games would be suitable for play during such situations.
rep for the patch info of arcanum - also got it but will wait in my backlog where even such a thing as planescape torment waits for long cold autumn and winter days - yes shame on me im thinking about being a gamer and im one of the few people on the whole earth who still have never enjoyed playing it.
For the stats:
After this insane insomnia I have now
Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
Bard's Tale, The
Betrayal at Krondor Pack
Blitzkrieg Anthology (Hell Yeah!)
Gobliiins Pack (Hell Yeah!)
Legend of Grimrock
Leisure Suit Larry: Love for Sail
Little Big Adventure (Relentless: Twinsen's Adventure) - gotten from foxworks, thanks
Little Big Adventure 2 (Twinsen's Odyssey)
Quest for Glory 1-5
Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition (Hell Yeah!)
Riven: The Sequel to Mist
Zork Anthology, The
in my backlog and after im through van helsing i think I will start with LBA or The Bards Tale
but after getting also a lot of ideas about "should have been played" games here (i think kamamura was such an tempter..) i may also try out the last express from a gamemag dvd.
Keep the good things going on. Cheers!

However, I do also support the effort by Tarnicus to out those who are clearly doing nothing but trying to reap the benefit of this communal goodwill without ever giving anything back. And by that I mean by not contributing to the community as a member, rather than just by not giving games themselves. I have a number of friends on here who don't have the kind of disposable income that others do, but they give back by participating in discussions and by making the forums a fun place to be.
I'm a biologist by education and thus understand that every ecosystem has parasites. My goal is to keep this ecosystem healthy by encouraging new growth, supporting established organisms, and making the environment antithetical to parasites. So I treat every member as a new specie and wait to see how it integrates before determining what my own personal response to them will be.
However I tend to apply the "Fool me once shame on you, twice shame on me" rule.
Same thing you call 'benefit of the doubt'.
Point is you can't let getting burned once in a while cause resentments, harboring these is simply 'allowing someone else live in your head rent free', that'll kill ya.
PS: Had to look 'antithetical' up, thanks, I love to learn new words. :-)

I totally agree and common sense, as always, should rule ones actions.

Praise the sharers and shun the takers. And by sharers I include those who share with us simply themselves.

I agree with this absolutely. But one major problem is the liggers, scammers, parasites and abusers of other people's good will are queuing up in their salivating droves for the next whiff of something for nothing. We know they are doing this right now and that they will never go away. You only have to peruse a page or two of YouTube, that gathering place for mean-spirited morons, to see how many people are happy to insult, cajole and be generally vile to others who are simply sharing the things they like.

Yet a few people continue to single me out among others as someone who is deserving of the large negative arbitrary number under my name despite the fact that I have only ever asked directly once in my entire time here for a game in one of the gifting threads and that was only because it was a timed deal situation which I was unable to get due to certain circumstances. I am always extremely grateful and deeply appreciative of every game I have received from the many wonderful and awesome people here, they all have inspired me to pay it forward in kind which I most certainly will do when I am able. Sorry for this long rant like post and apologies if you felt I have wasted your time with it, thank you for reading.
Now lets get back to the post-insomnia discussions as I for one have had my sleep schedule completely disrupted because of this and I only managed to doze off after the sun keane out in all its glory here, but I don't regret the awesome experience and the great week I have spent going through this thread a single bit. :)

Hello all :)
This insomnia sell was interesting to say the least LOL. I now have 32 new games to wonder when I will find time to play ;-)
Speaking of playing, I have narrowed it down to 5 to start and looking for any thoughts where to begin. Star control 1+2, Bard's tale, The guild, Grimrock, or Desperados.
Thanks for any input!!
