It really doesn't help that GOG has steadfastly refused to update their install scripts in over a decade, nor the installer. We could be missing on delta installs for all we know.

I don't see the use of any logic at all, and doubt whether anything you stated, server elements aside, is actually true ... but I guess time will tell.

I'm not against Linux, have used it myself, have collected all Linux versions of the games I own.

I just believe in being a realist and recognizing how most PC users behave, and what trouble they are prepared to go to and how reluctant they are to change.

I've also been listening to all the hoo ha about Linux for decades. It has its place ... mostly amongst the Nerdy community and servers etc. Nothing will change unless something major happens.

Every now and then, someone like yourself gets overly excited about Linux.

If Linux were a serious contender against Microsoft Windows, I'd be using it permanently myself. It still has a long way to go, mostly due to the mindset behind it ... there is a lack of true understanding there.

Despite Windows' faults and flaws, and there are many, it still serves the general Joe and Jane better ... and certainly that's how they perceive it.

From all I have ever heard, the two OS are much of a muchness when it comes to most games. A few games may be better, but many are worse.

I actually started a thread here over a year ago, asking for advice on what OS was better to use for my games, and the general consensus came back, with what I said above. Of course there were a few Linux and Windows fanboys and fangirls who said otherwise, but the majority stated what I wrote ... many of them Linux users/gamers ... they said there's not much in it ... roll the dice ... toss a coin.

Statistics vary depending on what source you take, but here are some indisputable facts:
- Aws runs on Linux
- Google runs on Linux
- Last time I checked, Wall Street was running on Linux
- NASA runs on Linux
- CERN runs on Linux
- All top 500 supercomputers run on Linux

All companies I worked at so far used Linux for their servers (including 3 that had very serious institutional clients).

Also, in the ever expanding open-source ecosystem, Windows is a second-class citizen to Linux.

But yeah, I'll throw you a bone: I'm sure Windows' share increases once you include all the low traffic mom and pops websites.

I don't tend to reinstall many games once I completed them, but I can at least confirm that they've kept the Terraria Linux installer up to date :P.

My educated guess is that the frequency of updates in terms of game content depends on the game studio that created the game.

But yeah, the format of the install script, while serviceable for your typical command line veteran is not great for a more novice user.

This is utter nonsense. You haven't provided any rational arguments to back that up, except saying that 'not many people use Linux, so it must be bad'.

The reasons more people haven't switched to Linux are because Windows comes packaged with new PCs and because it's what more people already know (i.e. it cornered the market first), not because it is actually better.

Of course I'm a Linux fan, its the bread and butter of my livelihood (my career focus are networked services which tend to require servers which tend to be dominated by Linux)

I had to switch from being primarily a Windows developer to a Linux developer circa 2009 if I wanted to make best use of the tools I wanted to use (Python with an Apache Server at the time, but there have been tons of other tools afterwards that pretty much ratified my os choice). I didn't start there, I was converted by empirical necessity.

I won't dispute that Windows currently gives a better desktop experience to most users given that their needs is that they just want to run their software with the least possible amount of complexity attached to it (even if they have to sacrifice some freedoms to do so).

However, I will fact-check you if you claim that Linux or the internet are not extremely important.

Last time I checked, it works like this on any Operating System, be it Windows, Linux or OSX.

Granted, you might have better luck using OBS instead of Fraps, given the latter has been moribund for some time while the former is getting updates to this very day.

Also, as of 2019 Linux is more common than Windows on Microsoft's Azure.
