Not what you expect from the title. There was a series on BBC called Taboo, 19th century period drama with voodoo, action, intrigue, conspiracy. Excellent period setting, great cast, story is pretty good with plenty of twists. If you get the chance then have a watch, next to black sails, best thing I have seen this year!

Actually that's exactly what I was expecting :D

I'll definately give the series a chance, I found the trailers quite intriguing and I like Tom Hardy a lot. That said, I don't want to get my expectations to high. In recent years almost every new show that came highly recommended by critics and audience turned out to be a huge dissappointment for me.

I like it either neat or with ice & lemonade.
It's a really sugary drink, but tastes great!

Why would a series about voodoo be called "Taboo"...which is a Polynesian concept after all.

Cant say too much about the plot as don't want to give anything away. The main character comes back from Africa with some kind of magic and his mum is a native American, so bits of both there The taboo comes from these "heathen" beliefs being taboo in 19th century London. Yes, I didn't go into it expecting to watch the whole series as like you found most news shows quite quite poor and generic (the last kingdom recently was one, managed to get through the first series but the second was just awful, look at my strong female lead ninja nun companion).
