lugum: Well i think anyone could have seen i made some blatant typos or rather missing words there :p

and that just proves games are not like real life then. cause who wouldnt have fun with alot of money in real life :p
What if it's space cash? That stuff is worthless. ;)

(Also he means that if you get too much money early on the game becomes a cakewalk as you can buy every upgrade and there's no challenge anymore.)

GameRager: I'm pretty sure if it's Lugum's first time that won't be a problem.....he'd most likely get caught every time he tried(Like I did.....heck I still can't get the hang of it.). ;)
I was suprised how easy it was, and I did after about 1-2h in the game, with basic hardware ;S

It's knowing what to do to avoid getting caught that can be a problem if you're just learning the ropes. ;)

Plus i'd rather earn my monies the old fashioned way.....through hacking stuff(And plain old fashioned extortion/blackm...err "creative business ventures"....;)...)

Trid: Take my advice and don't steal from bank accounts there, you will end up with so much money that game will be not fun anymore ;)

The only thing you can spend money on (in the game) is hardware and software - unless you add something to the game (the source code is included - I haven't tried to compile it, only looked at it). And stealing from banks is hard. Well, actually, stealing is quite easy - it's getting away with it that's hard. I stole 700k from some guy that was doing something he shouldn't be doing, but seconds after I'd wiped the logs etc, the FBI made a house call.. It's a lot easier hacking the game if you need/want lots of money ;-)

it's a real shame it doesnt appear they gonna make a sequel , seems to have alot of potential.
or just the idea of multiplayer , being able to hack someone else (virtual) pc, but also for the other to defend it.

It's not that hard when you get how all this work, you just need to remember to not delete all logs (to be more precise you need to erase some specific logs) and you need to be fast.

Real hacking is quite different from how it's done in Uplink as you're only using tools, not making them or even modify them for other purposes etc. If you were to defend your gateway/server in a multiplayer game with this kind of hacking, it'd be reduced to a question of who's invested the most in "protective software".

There are "real" hacking games, though, where you try to break into (jailed) boxes, then trying to maintain "ownership" etc, out on the internet. I haven't messed around with this in years so I don't know what's up and running today but google probably knows. (Not that I've ever been good at rooting etc - writing tools is more my thing..)

+++SPOILERS+++

From what I heard, it's easy: Create account at target bank(legally, without hacking), then hack bank(with the right software running) and transfer funds from a target account into your newly made accout at that bank. Then delete the transfer logs of both the hacked bank account and your bank account(at that bank), and the logs on Internic.

Yes, it's not that complicated, but you need to do all this fast - that's where the challenge is. My mistake was that I thought that they wouldn't be running a passive trace if they hadn't already ran an active one (I bypassed monitor and proxy), so I thought I had more time than I actually had. Also, I transferred the money to a different bank - perhaps that was the mistake, I don't know. The feds don't tell you how they caught you.. =P

Anyway, as Trid said, getting lots of money too early kind of spoils the fun.
