Night Dive Studios are a bunch of hacks. Don't expect much from this game.
Quite honestly, when you look at what complete amateur Thief modders have done with TFix, HDMod, T2X, etc, I'd have been happy with simply contributing to a lower-budget but much more reliable Kickstarter backing the open-sourcing & porting of SS1 into The Dark Engine (transfer SS1's plot, level design, audio assets, etc, into the already done UI, inventory, controls and engine of SS2), maybe add a Thief style HD texture pack and then release that as a free / ultra-budget SS2 mod, just to remove SS1's horrendously bad native UI & controls (which the "not really enhanced EE" version hasn't fixed). But then that was always highly unlikely as it isn't "console friendly" which sums up the true priority here...

XYCat: "weird extreme backtrack" was what entitled internet idiots were crying for the whole time. This is actually the studio listening to the loudest backers, even if they're idiots, and shaping the game according to their wishes to avoid their agressive backlash for "not delivering" what was "promised" or what they wanted.

Lifthrasil: Exactly. Another example of the loudest minority getting what they want.

But it's also another example of mismanagement of Kickstarter funds. This entire switching the engine back and forth was a huge waste of time and money - and they only have a limited amount of the latter. So this back and forth really doesn't inspire confidence.

That being said, I did like the demo and I backed the project. So I hope they finish the game some time. But probably they'll have to team up with some publisher after all because they will run out of funds. We'll see.
I backed it and I don't regret it even if some morons cried for literally the exact same game as the original (including the same levels put together from the same fucking blocks. I mean seriously they could have played the new source port of the original game for that).
I'm curious about it, but waiting till more concrete stuff pops out before i make any judgements. Big task though!

nothing new here, so far i know every nds remake sucked for one or another reason. and i had this experience with every nds remake that i had played. nds are greedy b*stards and they s*ck!
I'm still waiting for the results before deciding which System Shock 1 version to play. I'm only familiar with System Shock 2. But :

1° I adore it, and I don't think that it would require to "break new grounds" in order to be judged excellent. So, I don't think that any System Shock game today is "doomed from the get go".

2° As I haven't played the first one and have no point of reference, I'm completely confused by this outrage. I mean, I really don't get which video is supposed to be better than which one, based on what. I... just naively want to experience System Shock's story and atmosphere ported on a more friendly (free mouse look) more modern (less blocky graphics) system... I'm not sure which one will provide this, and I don't even get which direction that one is taking.

I dunno - I never made it very far in the demo but if they can keep it close to that, I'd be hooked. Everything about it, from the initial Player Installation of your chipsets to the ease of movement just "felt" right.

They release something in that vein, with the original SS plotline, maps and mechanics in it and I'm happy.
Well at least this video shows they have the whole game map implemented, and the art is just a placeholder. I feel pretty sure the final product will resemble the original demo the whole way through.
