Until earlier today, we had 13 stickies up (the "We are experiencing difficulties with our game code redeem system" sticky just got freshly removed).

That's 13 stickies, of which I (!) find only four (maybe five - but that fifth is a stretch already) actually "sticky worthy".

Now - there is of course nothing wrong with stickies to point out important (!) stuff...but at some point, they need to get removed again, or else they just clutter up the forum unnecessarily.

Plus: many people never notice them - as can be witnessed each time anew, when something happens, which gets a sticky (like the before mentioned "Code redeem system") - and then a dozen people create their own threads about that "stickied" topic anyway.

And also: the more stickies there are, the less noticeable are new (supposedly: important) ones.

Just my 2 cents.
Attachments:
People don't notice stickies exactly because there are too many of them added permanently for no reason. Why "news and staff threads" or "what did just update" threads have to be sticky while they're updated almost daily anyway? Why some Fallout London guide isn't in Fallout subforum? Forum regulations and FAQ should be on separate support page altogether. Stickies should be used only for most urgent and contemporary topics and then removed ASAP.

I agree - that's definitely one of the reasons.

Actually a good point. That thought ("updated daily anyway") hadn't even crossed my mind.

Though I really appreciate those two threads being stickied.
Of course - I could simply add them to my favourite threads (I added the "News and Staff threads 2008 -" there, once it got de-stickied).
It would already be much better if the game-specific announces (Fallout 4, Fallout: London, Gwent, etc.) were posted in the game-specific forums instead of polluting the current forum.

Same for the Galaxy-specific announces, as Galaxy itself has its own forum.

I agree.

Though I'm not really opposed of a sticky to stay up for (say) a week, to make a certain issue "more visible" (again: highly questionable, how "visible" stickies really are to the majority of forum users), but then it has to get removed again.

Whatever topic/issue isn't known (or: in the "hot rotation") after a week, is probably a topic/issue, that doesn't interest "enough" people, anyway.
Yeah, the section could currently use a little pruning.
(There's also a ton of long-irrelevant sticky topics in various game-specific forums that could stand to be not only un-pinned, but in many cases locked. But it would probably be a not-very-worthwhile slog for the few overseers of the Community section of the site to go through and evaluate which of the 4,500+ forums have stickies needing attention, and I have no confidence in GOG's forum software providing tools on their side to make this any easier than it would be for a regular user.)
Looking at the list again, I'd say that the "Local Prices Update" topic might as well be unstickied, too, if GOG staff aren't going to post updates in it anymore (which they haven't in more than a year).

Last update was in December 2020, if I'm not wrong.

Edit: oops - I am wrong...didn't change pages. XD

Yes, there are too many stickies. It's almost as if GOG is missing some kind of feature that would allow them to instead put system announcements, headers, and such in a designated section. Some kind of...newes section.
Yes, there are too many stickies. You can count this as my vote to have GOG review and remove a bunch.

This gets me every time. If people took the time to look and read, they'd save themselves a lot of hassle.

I agree that this is a prime candidate for removal if it's not going to be updated but gee, it'd be nice if they did update it!

In theory, they even have such a "News" - feature already: their "Blog" (Community --> Blog).
Anyone remember that?
Or know about it at all?

If they would position that more prominent (with a header entry of its own), instead of hiding it under the "community" tab, that would be the "perfect" place to make all these important news announcements.

And there they could even stay up "forever".
If they then would also be separated in easy to access, fitting categories (game related, shop related, payment related, etc) - pure bliss!

But no - instead - lately, if you go to the blog, you have to go around the "GOG Preservation Program" first, to get to the "general" stuff.

Sigh. Sometimes, it really feels, as if they try with all their might, to make stuff as inaccessible as possible.

Hey there! You are absolutely right, there were too many stickies. I've removed some of them and will pay closer attention to their numbers. Thank you!
