F4LL0UT: How so?
I don't have to wear anything on my head to enjoy a feature and I am already wearing glasses :P

I also like keep my surrounding of the real world.

Besides Glasses-Free 3D PC monitors with 4K Resolution exists:

No. No VR for me. With my spectacles its useless.
But beside this and the possible motion sickness, I don't think that wearing these things during excessive, I mean normal, gameplay is anything than fun. Add that you need a top high end computer.

Are you sure it wasn't something that would lead to something similar to this? http://i.imgur.com/ZO7lJGw.webm

Smannesman: There are also people that spend $1000 on a graphics card, so I guess people that have a lot of money will have a shiny new toy to buy.
One might argue that you already need a 1000$ GPU to use the full potential of a VR set.

Senteria: I really want to experience it myself someday but I am not going to spend that crazy amount of money.

Elmofongo: You know something is wrong when this thing is more expensive than buying an Xbox One or PS4.

Heck I could buy a decent laptop with that money.
And when laptops were a new technology, people said "I could buy a car with that money." When HDTVs were new, people said they could buy 2 or 3 standard-def projection TVs for that money.

$800 is the early-adopter price.

tfishell: Oculus Rift took the hit when "$350 ballpark" became $600, so fewer people seem shocked at the Vive's $800. It shouldn't be too surprising though, given the complexity of the technology.
$600 was doable nearly 20 years ago. I remember playing Heretic with a pair during the mid-90s. Granted the resolution is probably better now, but $600 isn't a particular accomplishment to be proud of. It's at best a minor improvement over what has been possible for many years.
I could put this thing on a credit card but have no interest in it (various reasons including I enjoy doing other things while gaming and a VR helmet would make that difficult). I am going to sit on a fence for a while and wait to see what happens with this technology (I still don't own a 3DTV). It may catch on or it may not; in the end VR could end up just being a really expensive vibrator.

You can wear glasses in both the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive (Steam's VR headset)

O_O

Welp I can certainly say that VR gaming are now just a trend, a very expensive trend.
The extra pricing is due to the fact the HTC Vive also has two hand controllers and two cameras (Lighthouse) for knowing where you are [positional tracking] in the room for room size play, if you desire it (it's a big selling point of the HTC Vive)

Shadowstalker16: To the VR optimists, why will this work when 3D failed?
Because it's matured and ready. A lot of work has gone into both the hardware and software sides of the VR headsets

It's something you have to experience to understand

Potzato: One might argue that you already need a 1000$ GPU to use the full potential of a VR set.
A GTX 970 is the minimum requirement, but a GTX 980 is recommended for the "full potential"

Have you tried the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive and compared them to a 3D monitor? They are completely different beasts

He's grabbing something in virtual space using his hands; my guess is possibly the new Blocks demo using Orion Beta

Note: On the front of his headset is a Leap Motion controller that captures your hand movements in real time and translates them into the virtual world
New conumer tech is always expensive. Early adopters pay the big money. Eventually the tech matures, more companies join in and price drops. I remember when LCD televisions and DVD players were brand new and ridiculously priced.

10 years ago i bought an internal dvd writer for 75 euro

2 years ago i bought a interal blue ray writer for 80 euro

2 weeks ago i bought an external dvd writer for 10 euro
There's a good chance I will end up spending $200 on a 1080p phone with a VR headset for it, but I probably won't go into PC VR for a while.

Now that makes sense. I tried thinking of what he could be doing in the virtual space, trying to imagine a perverted scene in front of him still didn't make sense. Now that probably does, the hand motions are similar in the GIF over at the page.

Guess that will be the problem with VR...what are they doing?!
I can't help but shake my head and wait for CastAR, which is probably going to be closer to $100 (probably).

There's this big supposed craze for VR, but VR... won't be ready even with the headset technology for another 10 years, when they figure out how to make games for it.

I think, his push for VR will start off slow, and remain slow unless there's some must-have game, and even if there are games that are must-have, the PC hardware and overhead for the headset & computer will keep a lot of people away.
