SargonAelther: They're not going to give us Diablo 2, because they want us to buy Diablo 2 Resurrected, instead of the original.

ssling: Thing is, people generally seem to really like D2R and I'd even say it's preferred version for majority today. So I don't see conflict of interests here. Warcraft 3 Reforged on the other hand...
If you dig deep enough, you will find some people being grumpy about a few tiny visual-censorship-like changes here and there, but yes, people generally like it.

Still though, the big reason for people liking it is that gameplay is almost untouched, so the only benefit are the visuals and a few tiny quality of life improvements, otherwise you may as well get the original with a less intrusive DRM... And they don't to allow that.

I mean if D2R was truly better in every way, we wouldn't be asking for the original on GOG, so they know there's still demand for the original and that's exactly why they won't give it to us.

AB2012: You mean other than "Requires Battle.net DRM and monthly online verification when playing offline characters. Online characters require a constant internet connection" on a DRM-Free website?

I mean that people who play D2R and those who give a shit about DRM, offline mode or whatever, are mostly two separate groups. The latter won't buy D2R anyway and the former already bought D2R (reported 5 million copies year ago) BUT could likely ALSO buy DRM-free classic version for nostalgia reasons or as back-up. And most newcomers would probably choose remaster still. Again, I don't see any conflict of interests, only profit for Blizzard.

Definitely not for nostalgia, as D2R lets you switch to old graphics in real time, same as Halo 1/2 remasters. So D2R already satisfies nostalgia, which his yet another reason why Blizzard wouldn't see the point of releasing the original any more.

If you want a good D2 "alternative" guys. Buy Grim Dawn with its Expansions.
Then search for Reign of Terror mod and install it.

Tada you have a full blown D2 and now even D1 experience in a good game.
You even get more build diversity because the devs of the ROT mod kept the
Grim Dawn stuff
