So I have a question, What do you do to motivate yourself when you're really down?
The thing is that I got laid off from my job last week and now I just feel really unmotivated to do anything. I have no money to spend on games since, well look at the last sentence and I'm just feeling quite sad.
I think I'll just go lie in bed and watch NorthernLion play The Binding of Isaac Afterbirth...

What to do, what to do? :(

Take a long walk in the park or in the woods if you have the privilege to have one close.
The PC and the TV are NOT your friends.

If you figure it out, be sure to let me know ;)
Personally, I'm a Christian so I seek comfort in my faith. You could attempt some sort of spiritual path, many people find great relief from it.
Or, if you want to go the less deep route, scientifically-proven ways are seeking some sort of positive (I'll buy/play this game after I do this task) or negative (I'll give this game to my friend, and if I finish this task by tomorrow, I'll get it back, if not, he keeps it) reinforcement. Another method is peer pressure, such as all of us here collectively saying:

GET OUT THERE AND GET A JOB! Come on, man, we all know you can do it. Stop kidding yourself. You've got the ability, you've got the time, an interview or two couldn't hurt. Who knows, maybe you'll end up doing some fun, high-paying job you never could have imagined?

or something like that.

Cheer up mate! I was down like you few months ago. I have lost my job because I have done it too good. This is possible when your ex boss is jealous psychopath prone to mobbing. I was actually most productive member of my firm working unpaid holidays, night-shifts, overtime, and my ex-employers did not cover even my travel expenses. I have been really bad first month. I didn't wanted to go out of my bed unless i really had to. Then I have decided to finish studying which I gave up few years ago when I started to work.

What is important to surround yourself with people with positive attitudes and values in their life. Go out, do some sports, mingle with people, see your "loss" as a new chance to build something better, use spare time to learn new skill, find new hobby or renew some old. Make new friends, do little good deeds, volunteer in some charity while looking for new job. Momentarily I'm doing just that.

Don't forget also to have some fun in Your life
Many things are for free and are fun like just talking with strangers on street and making new acquaintances. Also I decided to change myself step by step. If steps are to big you risk to fall even deeper in bad state of mind. Enjoy in little things while striving for greater ones. Life is sometimes bad, but when you are down, will you stay down "in the gutter" or will you stand up after resting and continue? Doing good things you haven't done before will cheer you up.

This is going to sound really silly but I hang out in here.

One of the reasons I have been in here virtually 24/7 this month is because December is a bitch for me depression wise.

At least you have donkeys!
Stay away from distractions (PC included), go into nature (park, woods, lake) and set yourself some small achievable goals for every day that don't need too much time and give you positive feedback. This way, you should be motivated enough for the rest of the time to try whatever is neccessary even if it may not instantly lead to some success.
