Netaro1000: ...Gog Galaxy is advertised as "the optional client" it sure doesn't feel like it.
For me it still feels like optional (because I successfully don't use it), but I guess that may change at some point.

I understand GOG. They want to compete with Steam. They need a client. Of course a client means that other ways (direct download from browser) are less well advertised. That's okay.

I guess I just have to trust GOG on that. I know, it's a bit risky but they know they will lose me as a customer if ever Galaxy becomes non-optional (for single player portions of games). So far, it all worked out well. I owe them my trust.

amund: I think it's great if they try to get more people to aware and use their client. In the past people have complained in other forums that GOG didn't have a client and it was just easier to use Steam, now users have that option. I'm surprised they have kept the Downloader this long, I'm hoping they remove it completely because it's no longer supported but now that Galaxy is out of the beta phase I'm assuming it will be removed in a couple months.
You're probably right but please don't scare me like that, I've only been using the Downloader to download my installers for the past 5 years. I've had more issues downloading through the browser like slower speeds or downloads not finishing, whereas in case of a net disconnection I can continue where I left off with the Downloader. I hope the Downloader does not come to its demise anytime soon.

Have you tried using a download manager? They usually allows you to limit bandwidth and are often better resuming downloads. I can understand you still want to use the Downloader because it was pretty much straightforward and easy to download games but since it's no longer supported I think it's a good idea to look for alternatives.

Actually, I think I used to use a download manager about 10-15 years ago when my internet speeds were really shit and I couldn't afford to waste precious download limits by starting downloads from anew. Never used one for GOG though, might have to look into it when the GOG Downloader becomes obsolete.
It's just a web browser that points to our GOG account, and lets us download games (and uninstall them). So long as the games come with a stand-alone downloader, I don't see the problem. The only advantage of using GOG Galaxy is that it keeps the games up-to-date.

The day they make GOG Galaxy compulsory, then I will stop buying games. DRM-free is the main selling point for me.

Last time I checked it was cream on them. Not ruling out the possibility however, they are a lattice so biting the wrong parts could result...

Was it Nazi cream? :P

And excuse my stupid question, but I need to check, you do know I'm referring to Germany regionally locking anything with Nazi symbolism right? :P

Yes, I am quite aware. Anyway, no I don't believe it was a Germans cream, just the standard squirty version from a can.
