I was extremely excited about Blood Omen finally being available on GOG, as I've been waiting for years to be able to get a PC version of this game that works as intended on new hardware. That being said, however, I can't help but notice Soul Reaver is no longer available for purchase. I found some mentions of this from March 2021 that said it would return shortly after some updates but it seems like it's been gone ever since. Does anyone have any idea what happened with this or when Soul Reaver will be back on the store?

Good question.
I hadn't noticed about it but the store page now shows it as "coming soon" with the following notice: Square Enix has temporarily removed this title from sale to work on some important updates. Please check back soon!

The game is still on my library, so I hope it's some free update/remaster, but who knows?

Hey, I just noticed that a very suspicious EULA has also been added to the system requirements... I hope there's nothing to worry about...
I'm going to backup the current offline installers and goodies, just in case.

It was pulled from Steam with the same message.... makes me wonder why pull it to update it? Update it and push the files when done...?

I'd cheer more for the game, but it's been a long time since i could stand ps1 style games and quality. I actually enjoyed more an overview of the converging timelines of the series that was more interesting than actually playing recently; If the entire story is redone to be played today i'd be happy to give it a try.

If it were just models/textures they could push it without pulling the game.

If it were just an updated 3dfx dll they could have pushed it.

No, i wonder if it isn't getting a remake. Cleaning it up, making it 64bit, new video files, we might be looking at a remake... Or a really underwhelming 'definitive version' at full price.

They can literally push a completely different set of files as an update (see recent controversy with The Sinking City)
At least on Steam, they can.

This is true, or like with GTA games an update that removes music... because that will totally sell more copies...

Well at least we have offline installers and backups, and if those fail, i'm sure there's torrents with the installers which can never be totally removed.
The last official announcement about the delisting of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver I found (on Sep 17):
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/update_regarding_legacy_of_kain_soul_reaver/post1
Doesn't metion what updates they are working on tho.
I'm curious to see what this results in as well, I wonder why they would have to pull it.

There was a thread over on the Steam forum, discussing modding Soul Reaver which provided some details. Apparently it's a DX wrapper for better compatibility with newer OSes (Soul Reaver uses D3D7) and better controller support. It won't be a "remaster". They are also trying to address some minor bugs IIRC.

(Edit) Here's the source: https://steamcommunity.com/app/224920/discussions/0/2837788120352512948/?ctp=27

The game update is being worked on by GOG.

Serious remaster updates, probably. If it were a small patch it sholdn't have necessarily been delisted.
It was discussed recently. Note that it was removed from Steam with the same message... in March.
One explanation would be that "remastered" version will return with higher price tag so they want prevent more people buying it beforehand as update for owners will be likely free. Although I'm not convinced, it's not like people will throw money for just slight technical refresh of game which most interested people already own for long time.

Improved controller support, rightstick movement and improved graphics would certainly go a long ways, and wouldn't need a full overhaul on the game either.

Who knows, maybe a bunch of features that were cut originally will be added back in. There were suppose to be a bunch more elemental shots and blade types originally. And if all that progress ties in with Soul Reaver 2 it might add a bit, from what i remember SR2 felt like a downgrade, though transferring all progress between PS1/PS2 titles probably wasn't an option.

But unless they're going to tie it all in as a single title from Blood omens all the way through to the end i'm not sure. Doesn't seem likely.
Most likely they're progamming DRM into it, so it will need to be always online for Denuvo and you need to keep a disc in the tray for Starforce.
Thanks for the info guys. I hadn't seen the delisting announcement from Sept 17th. Unfortunately I hadn't bought GOG versions of the Legacy of Kain titles since I was waiting for Blood Omen. I went ahead and grabbed all the available ones to avoid this issue in the future. Now I'm just hoping Soul Reaver comes back soon so I can complete the collection.
Crystal Dinamics is making a remastered with HD textures, 60fps and dynamic music, for real.
