Maybe I'm just missing it, but in the menus at the gog.com homepage, I don't see any option to select games by year anymore. Is this feature gone permanently? Because it was an enormous help to me, and I'm sure to many others as well.

No, you're not missing it; it's gone, as are a number of other filters. If it's a permanent change or not is anyone's guess. GOG's supposedly collecting feedback, but we have no idea what they're going to do with it, if anything.

They are probably gonna print it out and burn it ceremoniously.

At least that's what I think, considering I have lost all faith in GOG whatsoever.

OK, thanks!
To be absolutely blunt, the years weren't reliable, anyway. Sometimes the wrong years were printed, and even sequels would be listed as prior to the original game.

This might help you out.
But kohlrak's right in this case: don't take the exact sort-orders or filter results too seriously.
The years weren't that useful anyway. You had 2005 and before, post 2005, and then something else, I guess.

Edit: I'm not sure why the age of a game would be that much of use. Akalabeth is the oldest. TBA is the newest.

The former is not likely to change. The latter is constantly changing.

Agreed, but that's the same underlying issue that the "newest and oldest" filters have, and the solution to that isn't to eliminate the "by year XXXX" filter.

It is when you have a huge game database and realize you ultimately and painstakingly have to go back and fix them all.

Maybe it's in the approach. Many users here have been wanting a rollback to old GOG for weeks now, but this gets no response. Meanwhile, it seems as though Twitter mob rule is considered worthy of instantaneous action. Hmmm... We identify as TEMPORAL BEINGS! It is discriminating against us to not be able to look up games by year! It is OFFENSIVE! :)

Doesn't make sense when you still have filters that also base on time of release, and, of course, also don't work reliably.

Funny (bottom bit).
It's a nanny state conspiracy. The Politburo has come to the decision that we don't have the intellectual fortitude to search for games by year anymore, therefore the option has been removed.

Instead, feel free to browse the new and improved view on the front page despite common consensus saying it's a flat-out downgrade.

(In case you didn't know, that post was intended to be humor. No politicization intended.)
Has there been any updates from GOG about this whole farce? Maybe I've missed it, but the non-twitter communication from GOG has been sadly lacking.

Novelty printed toilet paper.
I'm sure that the year sorting wasn't perfect, but it was pretty accurate, IIRC. And very helpful for people like me who never got to play a lot of the older '80s and '90s games back in the day, and who are also relying on their CPU's (or APU's) integrated graphics.
