Recently I saw the news on GOG of the 5 cosmetics for the game Showgunners.

Thing is I know these are being offered for free to Showgunners players on other platforms by watching Twitch streams of the game.

Got me thinking why does GOG not get in on the whole drops things other platofrms like Steam, Ubisoft Connect and others do?

I can only guess, but my guess would be because GOG isn't big enough to fund such promotions, especially since GOG has a very small Twitch audience, I would assume (but I have never watched GOG on Twitch, so I am not sure about that).
Go Twitch Yourself...

Because GOG has nothing to do with Showgunners marketing? You should ask developers or publishers of this game.
From what I understand, it isn't the platform but the developers that decide the drops stuff but there seems to be an issue with how connection is with Steam compared to GOG. I've been watching when No Man's Sky does these drops and they say it isn't possible with GOG so whatever that is must mean it's more likely something in the background code possibly? It doesn't have that integration like games tend to for a lot of things with Steam and Twitch together.

So then why wouldn't they just make it also a code to use on the GOG version as well as Steam version...? I don't know. I just know you claim then when you earn them, link accounts too, and you eventually get them in your games with Steam. .. so..

I am 90% certain that this has everything to do with key generation. From what I understand, developers can easily generate Steam keys with a few clicks and they often last forever. I think in GOG's case, developers have to literally ask GOG staff for keys and nobody wants to bother with that. All GOG keys have an expiration date too, making them even more of a hassle to deal with.

Until GOG starts allowing developers to generate long-lasting keys with a few clicks, GOG will continue to miss out on various promotions.

And can we thank God enough that GOG doesn't tie anything to watching losers play videogames? I play games. I don't need to watch other people play games. I don't get the appear at all. Why is people streaming games so popular? I mean, I get for a video walkthrough, and I like those, except when egotistical videographers have to spew their voice all over the game I'm trying to see. I don't care if cocksucker15 just subscribed, I don't care if your dog has a cyst that looks like the boss. Too many walk throughs have commentary.

I am so thankful not to have items in a game tied to watching shitty streams of people playing games.

you know, even if gOg was doing this, noone could force you to watch the streams anyway. you could, you know, just ignore it. none of those items / DLC's etc are unique and you can just buy them if you wanted them.

for each teir own, live and let live and all that jazz. I don't care at all about those streams, but I am thankful that people can do as they like.

Well said, TYVM.

That's not necessarily true. Some Twitch drops are exclusive and can be obtained by no other means except for watching Twitch streams, and sometimes those streams must also be watched on or within a specific ranges of dates.

These skins for Overwatch 2 seem to be examples of exactly that:

Well, then the question is: what is more important to YOU?
To NOT WATCH Twitch streams - or to OBTAIN these items?
That's the two choices you have.
Your preferred third choice of: "I don't want to do what is necessary to obtain X, but I want to obtain X anyway!!!" is not available in these cases.
Deal with it.
I have mixed feelings about these things. I have absolutely no interest in watching Twitch or anyone else play, however I also hate missing out on content, especially in single-player games on GOG.

• If it's a centralised multiplayer game, then I don't own anything. Not the game, not the server client, not my save, so I can ignore missing out on content. The game is doomed anyway.

• If it's a single player game and I can buy the content as a DLC, I will probably just buy it.

• If it's a single player game and the only way to obtain this content is to watch the stupid stream, I will open that stupid stream in one window, mute it and go on about my day.

• If it's a single player game and the only way to obtain this content is to watch the stupid stream, but it gives you a Steam key only, then I will rage and moan on GOG and developer's forum / discord about GOG being excluded. THey should either get GOG keys, or publish it as a DLC. Hey, it worked with the Age Of Wonders 4 Steam-Exclusive newsletter helmet lol.
