SpaceMadness: It depends on the game and where you buy it from. If it's a digital release, yeah prices will mostly stay the same. However, physical copies tend to drop in price much faster, as retailers try to make room for newer titles. Same games hold their value longer than others.

anzial: And yet, PC games get much cheaper still. Can you get a free AAA title for a console? I think not. Even years after the release, console games still cost a pretty penny. On PC, it's pretty much a given that games can and do go free, even before EPIC came to the scene, now it's a tradition really lol
Yup i agree. But perhaps your average console gamer only wants to play the most popular titles.
It depends on the genre, no?

I can see how triple-A action games and sports games might be more popular on console, but everything else is more popular on PC (my impression): mmos, strategy games of all kinds, simulation games of all kinds, ... Indie games in general. If you are a niche gamer (say, sim racing or 4x), the PC is the ideal (only?) choice.

The gaming media (journalists) is always going backwards and forwards between pc and console; some periods their big trend is PC gaming, the next period it's all about Nintendo, then Playstation, etc.

Apart from that, it's the always-mentioned factors: price, conveniece/simplicity, and triple-A exclusives.

A friend of mine recently bought the new Xbox mainly because it was sgnificantly cheaper than upgrading his "OK" PC, and because he only plays triple-A titles.
The only thing cheaper about PC gaming is the base hardware around the launch window. Games are more expensive, peripherals are more expensive, you need to pay a subscription for basic online functionalities.
THis is only my guess but I think that despite being the more powerful machine the reason people tend to get PC's is because of the backwards compatibility, emulators and mods. In short the PC isn't the best platform for playing the latest and greatest, but it's unmatched when it comes to older gems from your childhood.

SirHandsome: Console games are cheaper. I can buy MGS V right now for PS3 or 4 at half the price as on Steam. 2 years ago I could get MGS V for 10 bucks then too, but then it was on Steam for 50. As a player of both PC and Consoles, consoles are just a better deal.
PC's have thier own advantages, price just isnt one of them.
Wow, really? In my region PC games are way cheaper than console games.

I am not sure what you are trying to say and if i understand it correctly. Console hardware is actually cheaper for the consumer because it gets heavily subsidized by the industry. The games however go less frequently on sale for console than for PC games, and overall the pricing at least in my geographic region is in favor to PC games. Console games are more expensive.

The subscription part I do not understand. Where do I need to subscribe and for what?

there is a reason they want to subsidize the consoles , to get it back multiple times from game sales

Of course there is, noone said they do it out of the goodness of their heart.

anzial: […] Console games are cheaper to make but expensive for consumers. That's because the whole system is essentially a monopoly for the gaming system creator, MS and Sony respectively, that's why they sell consoles at a loss but make billions from selling games on their systems.
Actually, if I were to buy a console, now, I would be more likely to buy a Switch first.

I need a PC. A console is an extra expense.

Also, I like turn-based gaming which is more prevalent on the PC.
