Since will not be for sale anymore, it would e good to have a chance to secure a DRM-Free version to steam owners.

Thats probably it. Unless they had made a deal before and had GOG informed, but is not likely.

well, you wouldn't have missed much, only wasted precious time. According to wikipedia it is a horrible piece, the TV show was better but the movie ruined any chance the show had.
