Thanks to a Microsoft update in June, my CD_ROM version of Crysis stopped working. (Presumably a final Microsoft rejection of SecuROM.)

After trying everything I could to revive it, I gave up and repurchased the game through GOG.

However, after installing the GOG version I discovered several things missing from this version versus the version I had been playing:

* Options: There's no resolution offered above 1920x1080 (I normally run at 1920x1200)
* Options: "Delta" difficulty doesn't provide the option of KPA soldiers speaking Korean
* Graphics: General visual quality is visibly lower (even with all settings in the new version at "Very High")
* Graphics: Several object textures are surprisingly low-quality
* Movement: Movement speed is noticeably sluggish

After some checking, I saw that my CD-ROM version of Crysis had been patched -- using Crytek's official patch -- to version 1.2, but the GOG version I'd just installed was still only 1.1.

So I tried applying Crytek's 1.2 patch, which I still had, to my GOG version of Crysis. That process failed with an Error 1334 complaining about not being able to find "pbag.dll". THAT turned out to be Punkbuster. I still had that directory (with pbag.dll in it) from my previous CD-ROM install, so I copied it to my new GOG Crysis install folder and retried the 1.2 patch. This time the patch process ran to completion... but it doesn't seem to have actually done anything. The version number in the menu still shows as v1.1.1.6xxx, the visual quality is still poor, and there's still no option to run the game at my preferred 1920x1200 resolution.

I've edited the game.cfg file to manually set the r_height value to 1200, and the game appears to accept that... but if I alter any settings using the game's Options menu, it'll rewrite the height value. Meanwhile, visual quality is still visibly worse than in the properly patched to 1.2 CD-ROM version of the game.

Ultimately I'm happy that GOG offers a working version of Crysis at all. But I am puzzled that the version GOG offers isn't the most up-to-date version.

So finally, after a long explanation, there's my question: Can GOG offer a v1.2 patch for Crysis that works correctly to provide the latest features, including properly detecting available widescreen resolutions in the Options and the best available textures? Or a version of Crysis already patched to 1.2 or 1.2.1?

You should check out the Crysis forum here on GOG. According to this, Crysis on GOG is up to date.

GOG often uses a custom numbering scheme for their updates; you'd want to check the actual version data internally or on files.
All Windows 7/8/8.1 users can re-enable securom/safe disc protection, is only disabled as default; only on windows 10 can't be enabled

some games on GOG are NOT updated

I appreciate the pointers -- thank you!

It's very odd that the GOG version is said to updated to the official 1.2.1 Crytek patch level without actually showing that version number, but I think there's some evidence to support that. There's a glitch reported in the patch that prevents the rear wheels of some vehicles from being rendered... and sure enough, my GOG version has that issue.

So there may still be some environmental/machine issues that I can tinker with. If I can achieve some success, I'll post that here.

Not really. It's not that uncommon, especially for games from pre 2010, to show different version from that of the patch.

Sometimes the .exe is not even modified and shows its version, not the patched version, that changes other files. And in rare occasions the devs actually forget to change the version number.
