Gudadantza: Oh, and I have a doubt.

In the GOG Game Card, Links LS 1998 version is marked as a DOS Game, at least it says it runs under Dosbox. But the info I have is that the last MSDOS version was the 1997 edition, and assuming that it is the game that lets you choose obscene resolutions for the era even not available in some monitors today I wonder if it is not an errata from the deelopers or GOG.

Is it really a DOSBOX game?
No, it's a Windows game. As you said, LS 1997 was the last dos game in the series.
Everytime I see sports titles, I look for Hyperblade....and still I wait...

Then there is an errata in the game card because it is marked as powered by Dosbox

Glaucos: I never had Links LS 98, but I was looking at this CD cover (https://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/links-ls-1998-edition/cover-art/gameCoverId,82107/) and now I'm thinking: is it possible to convert the courses from the old Links games sold here at GOG to play them at Links LS 98?
Yes, that should be possible. However, as I mentioned earlier in this thread, the older courses will suffer from some very low resolution elements. Many of the best old courses have been redone later in higher resolution and optimized for newer versions of Links. I found them all on the Internet Archive.

Man, my dad passed away in my arms on Friday. I used to play Links when I was a kid with him. This was made specifically for me. Thanks, lads and lasses over at gog!

Maxvorstadt: Oh, Golf games on GOG? Cool, but where is Leaderboard Golf?
Fantastic game, especially the RealSound. "Looks like he... hit the tree Jim". All on PC internal speaker too.

Awesome!
Awesome, I no longer have 386 Pro, so I'm picking that up! If you can't get enough Links then you should visit Links Country Club, it works perfectly.
The Links games are a nice addition, thanks! But unfortunately nobody bothered or was allowed to add Linux installers for them.

Edit: Despite GOG tagging it as a DOSBox game, Links LS seems to be a Windows game. Has anyone tried to run it on Linux?

More attention to Access software is always welcome. I would love to see Countdown finds its release here and for nostalgia purposes, Leader Board Golf. The natural environmental sound effects through PC speakers were worth the price alone.

Mooza1976: I just bought all three Links games.

Links: 9 courses
Links 386: 18 courses
Links 98: 4 courses

tanukisuit: Thanks. I was hoping that was the case seeing the shots as I was going to ask too.

I had way way back in the day Links 386 for DOS and some of those courses, amazing game as another said like WORMs but passive. I do have the original, came on this 20 years old PC Gamer magazine disc (usually demos) that oddly was 12 full games on one CD and that's on there. It felt kind of wrong, now that I see the 386 listing that's why. I imagine I'd just buy 386 eventually, unless the courses import as advertised (in 98) well to that version.
You should be able to import those courses and there are still websites that have user made courses for these games as well.

JLH: i've been hurting for some golf games here. neo turf masters is a blast but i remember these old links games. they were great. i'm going to pick up links ls 1998 for sure.

I wish we could get the old tiger woods games (any from 2004-2007 are my favorites) but i imagine licensing is a nightmare.
Try out "Perfect Golf" on the other game platform if you are wanting a more modern version in the Links sim style. It is bare bones, but you can find 100s of user made courses and it plays a nice game of golf.

There's something very nostalgic about the graphics of those old golf games, especially how they use FMV style sprites of real people.

Crosmando: There's something very nostalgic about the graphics of those old golf games, especially how they use FMV style sprites of real people.
I always found it rather ironic how the technically more advanced polygon models of the later games looked totally unrealistic and soulless compared to the old, more rigid sprite characters.
Indeed, The photographic/FMV kind of graphics was something very characteristic in Access games

The two former Tex Murphy games and later FMV ones, Countdown, Links, Amazon...etc. Not really sure but I'd say they invented it along with the sound technology (Real audio?) intended for digitized effects via Speakers, for users with no Real Sound Card. They also were one of the former studios to offer 256 colors in 1989/90
