Please ignore the troll. Don't waste your time with them in general, especially not on Christmas Day.

Another recomendation here, although let me expand the recomendation a little further, if I may.
The game is best played with all the DLC's: Wariors of the North, Beasts and Exploration and Blazing Deserts. The base game is fine for learning the mechanics but gets old quite fast as you spend most of the time battling brigands, waiting for a game crisis to happen.
Without the DLC's there's no Southern Cities, armies or arena fights (and no weapons like the Quatal dagger or swordlance), no Northern Chosen Warrior to decimate your brothers (also no Northern Weapons like the excelent Axe and heavy throwies), no Legenday Locations like the Library or Monolith (pretty much accepted as the end game) and no crafting at all, meaning no armor attachements and potions (wich can give and edge in difficult fights).
Also, one can only get access to 3 distinct origins (with the free Oath and Faith DLC) and no Champions to farm named gear, wich, let's be honest, it's half of the fun in the game (the other half being listening to the sound of freaking goblins dying).
The game is considered difficult by some people but is not difficult at all, just has to be learned because there's absolutelly no hand-holding and your thrown in a unforgiving world where everything wants to kill you. Consider playing a disposable campaign or two as a tuturial.

(not mentioned yet in the topic):
Inkulinati - game is still in EA, but will be finished in 2024, and even now has very solid content. It's hard nowadays to make something original in genre, but Inkulinati made it with its interesting rules and big variety of "beasts". It's now on discount and it's probable that base price will be increased after "full release", so I would recommend to grab it.. And Enjoy it :)
Star General - there was a lot of SNEG releases this year, but I wanted to point out this one, as up to this day Star General is quite unique (even if the specific "turn counter difference" between space and planets may not be very "straightforward") and I believe it's worth attention.
Thrillville: Off the Rails - I'm missing a lot this kind of games on PC and Thrillville is giving a lot of good mini-games. Good title even in SP, but shines even better when playing with someone.
Hellish Quart - what a game! It's like fighting game, but with fencing, making surprisingly well mix of accessible controls and fencing finessy. Unfortunately, still in EA and only local multiplayer, but I still recommend it.
A bit "out of contest" - it's not discounted, but it's great game, worth even full price and developer had some hard time to release it here, so even more worth of appreciartion - Telepath Tactics: Liberated.

Before you buy anything, decide how much you are going to spend. Then go check what kind of discounts there are, and try to get as many games as possible for that money, or alternatively, as many personal favourites as possible. Or some other criteria.

I am about to pull the trigger on the sequel to Obsidian's Pillars of Eternity —— Why did I not know this was an Obsidian game? I would have bought both months ago! Who's responsible? I want names!
I just need to decide if the basic Deadfire is sufficient, or
if I need to splurge on the Obsidian version, which is about 50% more expensive. (I won't be using the online componentry since I don't game online, so that is not a consideration, even if it is an additional plus over the vanilla version.)
