Dzsono: Oh yes, I'm in! I played Reunion to death when that was the latest X. I completely understand why some people find it slow and tedious, but it's so satisfying to start small and build an empire with self-contained production facilities and have an armada of warships escort you into battle with the Xenon! I'm particularly interested to see just how polished Albion Prelude has become, although I assume I'll be over to the Egosoft forums again to pick up a few 'quality of life mods'. Thanks for the chance, WinterSnowfall :)
Glad to have you aboard! I remember I was still playing X2: The Threat when Reunion came out. I really liked the idea behind X2, but the graphics (especially the weapon effects) and station docking model, I thought were not that great.
X3: Reunion was a jewel at that time, but also a resource hog - I specifically went out and bought a better graphics card with the little money I had as a high-schooler at the time in order to play the game without watching a slide-show.
Looking back at it now, I have to say I am horrified by how slow the game start was, that is if you didn't stick closely to the actions dictated by the main story-line (which I usually ignore). There are a lot of massive improvements brought by X3:TC and X3:AP. X3:AP is, under the hood, the most polished and well cared for game in the X3 series, however its story-line is minimal. To fix that, however you have the X3:TC story mod for X3:AP which brings TC's extensive campaign to the X3:AP improved engine & game mechanics, which I strongly recommend campaign-lovers do instead of playing X3:TC directly.
Are there still annoying bugs in both these games? Well, yes, they never seem to go away :), but that's hardly important once you get sucked into the X universe. As a former X3: Reunion player I think you'd be pleasantly surprised and mesmerized by how the series has evolved :).
