I haven't played previous Ys titles, is it necessary? Can't do all Ys titles. Still think I might get Timespinner.

I tried playing a Ys game long ago, really hated it tbh, but then again I don't like hyper-fast-paced action games. Caligula seems to be turn-based and has nice production values so I'd go for that.

It helps if you play the previous Ys titles but Ys 8 is great fun on it's own too and you can always pick up the other installments later, it's a serie i greatly enjoy and Ys 8 imo is a far better game than Caligula Effect. It was in a poor state at launch but now it's fine imo.

If you just want a turn based game then there are also far superior options on GOG.

Caligula is much more tactical.

Did they ever fully patch Ys 8 on PC? I don't think they did. It was in pretty bad shape, though. I ended up just buying it on PS4, instead.

They did patch it , but some people still have problems..Its a hit or miss.
