Maighstir: So, apparently competition among giveaways have become so fierce that they're starting to personally invite people to enter. Most markets thrive when demand is slightly higher than supply, as the prices for the services and goods offered can rise slightly while the customers still feel they're getting their money's and time's worth.
Have the giveaway market become so saturated that too few people even bother to enter to see what's being offered, much less pay the price (take the time to type "I'm in") to get in on the offer?
I certainly hope not, as that would not offer much room at all for competition or game-like giveaways (the cost of entering being much higher), but perhaps the market needs to implode under its own weight before it can rise up again like a Phoenix.
It was quite surreal getting the message "I'd be honored if you'd enter my GA", and that's what promted me to type this. Sadly, I don't have much to offer in the way of increased demand, I'm quite sure I already have all GOGs offered, I'd rather not add games I'm not very certain I'll play to my Steam account (preferably I'd add none at all and delete the thing, but some games I want to play have no other option), and I have yet to create an account at Desura.
It did feel a little strange to me too, but I've dealt with Momo1991 on giveaways before, and from the OP I could see that there actually is a sincerity there in terms of them wanting people to participate, and wanting to give something back to the community. I can also relate to a desire to see people taking part in a giveaway thread. I remember when I held my first System Shock 2 CD giveaway and practically no one replied; I wondered if I'd done anything to inadvertently offend people. Heh.
