DrIstvaan: I also have a question regarding Space Ranger 2.
I liked the freeform gameplay and truly living game world of SR1, but couldn't spend that much time with it because the need to juggle with my cargo capacity (if I load up a good amount of trade goods, I can't have a decent gun, meaning I can't really defend the ships fro pirates or the aliens) got on my nerves. Is this problem present in SR2 as well or is it easier to extend cargo capacity in that game?
(Or am I missing out on something in 1 which could solve my problem?)
It's a balance between Tech - Space - Money
Bigger and better stuff can come at a cost of two things, space or money. The more money you spend, the lighter you can get them.
In 2 at least, there's a bulletin board on the planets you can use to search for anything. You can specifiy how much you want something to weigh maximum etc.
It's simply a matter of finding the balance with what you need, and what you plan to do (trade = more cargo, pirate/fight = less cargo, better stuff), until you start making more money, tech gets better, or you happen to find some sweet stuff on the way (killing a few dominators can give some sweet alien tech sometimes ;))
There's also a couple of artifacts in black holes that can reduce weight significantly so certainly worth checking out.
