It's worth mentioning there's a robust cosmetic system in place as well. Any piece of gear you get, whether your class can use it or not, you can equip to a cosmetic slot. There's also tons of cosmetic equipment in the lotro shop. If you do decide you like the game, I recommend spending turbine points (the cash shop currency) on quest packs first.

xa_chan: Well, be still warned that there is much more "magic" in LOTRO than in LOTR, for the sake of the game. 3 classes are able to manipulate magic (2 are pure magic, the third one is more "inspirational magic" since it's the Bard). But Turbine has been clever enough to make it not too "visual", if you see what I mean. Yeah, you will still have graphical effects when you cast spells, but it's not overdone, so the "spirit" of Tolkien is respected, I think.
Making an MMO without magic would be very hard to do but as long as it is within the "spirit" of Tolkien I'm okay with it. So cool and thx for the info.

That sounds cool and if I like the game I could see myself simply paying a subscription. It's often easier than paying bit by bit. But we will see. Thx for the info.

Yeah the magic in it isn't overbearing, or anything. It all makes sense for the classes to be what they are. Also, if you like the game, do some hunting around. Mines of Moria you should be able to find for $5-$10 if you know where to look, and the mini expansion Siege of Mirkwood isn't even necessary as they revamped a zone called Enedwaith to lvl from 60-65 so if you choose to sub, Enedwaith is included. Also for 65-75 there's two options now, Rise of Isengard as well as a region called Great River.

They've really done their best to offer options to people to lvl up to cap without having to spend an arm and a leg. I believe Great River is included in the sub as well.
Well a few months into this latest bout with lotro and I still love the game. It excels at something few mmo's manage to do: give me an online sanctuary where I can go to and craft or run around the shire and not worry about lvl cap.
