Swing Swing Submarine, developers of Blocks That Matter are giving away indie games every day till the 24th. To enter, you have to have either a Twitter or Facebook account. I think this is an awesome thing from them and the sponsors. For details, go to swingswingsubmarine.com

hey nice find..

thanks for the heads up :)
For the record, I think contests that require the use of social media are not about "giving back to the community". It's buying advertising, pure and simple, and buying it dirt-cheap to boot. It's getting thousands of people to advertise your product/company, and only having to pay a few of them.

I'm not saying it's not a good idea, it's just something to think about.

I agree (mostly), but In this instance I dont mind advertising Swing Swing Submarine a bit, since I like their game Blocks That Matter. But one thing to keep in mind is if you dont want to freely advertise the company via social networks, you can easily remove you tweet or unlike the post once the contest is over, so you only advertised them for a day or two.
Of course it's advertising - most business is based on advertising. As long as it's done in an unobtrusive and aesthetic way I'm totally fine with that.
I love Blocks That Matter and would be happy to advertise it, but my love for it is not big enough to overcome my dislike for Facebook and Twitter, sorry.
Hi, William from Swing Swing Submarine here :)
Thank you Vorax for this topic.

I just wanted to answer some concerns about the use of Twitter and Facebook: we decided to use those free services in order to "control" (or feel like we have a control) on entries more efficiently than we could have with our website comments. So it wasn't exactly our intention to use this event to "advertise". Even if I don't think advertising indie games (and not only our games) is not evil :)

Personally, I'm not a big fan of social networks but I have to admit it's a good way to speak with people I like and share information nowadays. And, of course, I think you shouldn't start using Twitter or Facebook just to enter a contest.

I promise that if we make another event next year, we'll find a solution to receive entries even without social networks.

Hope you'll understand,

William
Why not do what was done in the good old days (3-5 years ago) and have people e-mail you their entries.
Thanks for the heads up. Entered with my Twitter account. Use it sometimes to follow more interesting people/bands.

We thought it was not an easy/quick way to enter.
The ideal situation would be a field where you enter your mail adress and that's all.
Or even a "one button" entry with a lottery number you have to keep. But with this solution, you could enter multiple times, I guess.
